This being my first post I'm introducing the thought of the American Revolution ending shortly after the Battle of Brandywine, 1777. My thought is what would have happened after Capt Patrick Ferguson killed Gen George Washington with his new inventon, the breech loading Ferguson Rifle.
I think, had that event occurred, the battlefield result would have been a far greater victory for the British Army, because the American Forces would have been routed, in disarray, and most likely disbanded soon thereafter.
The political result would have even been far worse as the signors of the Declaration of Independence would have been hunted down, and hung for their treasonous activities.
In the end, the war would have ended in 1778 with a firmer establishment in the Americas. The Ferguson rifle, having killed General Washington would soon be in production as the main armament of the time. And lastly, a second attaempt at independence would not rise from the ashes.
Any comments would be greatly desired.
