American Oregon/Columbia = British Alaska?

I was wondering, if the US somehow managed to get control of British Columbia, would Alaska be likely to fall into British (then Canadian) control? If so, what would be the consequences?

For this to happen, the first thing would most likely be having no Oregon Treaty being signed and creating potential border war. The Mexican American War would have to end earlier or delayed until the conflict between the British and US escalates. And giving the US a bit of luck against the British.

Any butterflies that anything can see happening? And would Canada be better off in this TL?

Definately not better off. Without the transport link to get easier access to Vancouver from the St. Lawrence area the Plains states would be much less developed.

Alaska would not be British. Fucking around in the far end of this continent does not change the fact the Great Game is still going on that has Britain and Russia locked in a pseudo-cold war with each other. If London and Moscow iron out their differences decades ahead of OTL, perhaps out of necessity due to an earlier German unification and industrial growth, maybe there'd be a genuine offer for Alaska.

I can possibly see the U.S. gaining control of B.C. south of 54*40', but no farther that that, I think. And, IMO, a Canada that really wanted Alaska would likely have to be one not under the control of Britain, as London and Moscow weren't exactly the best of friends for a while.

Gold

WI: Canada offers more Gold for Alaska and actually pores gold coins onto the floor in front of the Czar?

The Russians offered Alaska to the Brits first and then the Americans in order to start a bidding war. The Brits simply didn't care, and really, neither did the Americans, they just bought it since ti was on sale. The Brits could have indeed bought it.

The Czar wasn't some kind of stereotype of a savage who was going to be distracted by the pretty baubles. My feeling is that this would pretty much scupper Canada's chances.
