There is no real reason for the United States to want a colony, but hand wave that away, how would US foreign policy be with a serious colony and possibly a state in Africa?

The US fought Germany and Spain who both had African colonies between 1898 and 1918. In theory the United States could have asked for some of their African colonies. For the sake of discussion let's say Western Sahara and Namibia are ceded to the US. Due to the low populations, the US is able to get a small majority in the two colonies by the time the decolonization movement has taken off in Africa.

Would the Unites States be more supportive of other colonial powers efforts to maintain control? Would the US condemn South Africa harshly? With Spanish Sahara having a large Muslin population, how would they effect the US/War on Terror/Israel/Palestine situation? Would the US intervene in places like the Congo/Rwanda? More research for AIDS, Ebola, Malaria and other diseases that tend to hit Africa?
