In OTL General Joseph Eggleston Johnston's first assignment as a Confederate general was to the Shenandoah Valley where he created the Army of the Shenandoah and played a major part in the victory at 1st Manassas.
In OTL General Albert Sidney Johnston's first assignment was that of Commander of the Department of the West and he was tasked with securing the western states for the Confederacy with a view of taking control of Kentucky and Missouri.
So, hypothetically speaking, if we switch them around what changes occur?
Will Joe Johnston bluff his strenght as A.S. Johnston did and attempt to maintain a thinly stretched forward line inside Kentucky or will he prefer to concentrate force at strategical points?
Will A.S. Johnston build the Army of the Shenandoah and if he does will it remain in the Valley and fight Patterson's Army of the Shenandoah or will it go to Manassas Junction and take part in the up-coming battle there?
What changes in the long run occur with thse different minded men in different places?
