American Civil Rights in the 1900s

I've been thing a lot about Booker T Washington and W. E. B. Du Bois (personal hero) and how much they remind me of Dr. King and Malcolm X (another personal hero) so it got me thinking, is there any way to start a mass-movement for civil rights in the 1900s (1900-1910)? if there was such a movement what might it look like? would their be Northern white sympathy like there was in the 1960s? would TR push for Civil right laws? if so would he get them?

Your best bet for an earlier Civil Rights Movement would be Oscar Underwood instead of Wilson, but that requires a POD moving him to Kentucky. Said movement would be in the 20s-40s though.
