American and French Reveloutions

1. If the American Reveloution had never taken place would the French Reveloution and Napoleonic Wars heve taken place when they did if ever?

2. If the American Reveloution had been suppressed or its war was still going on would the French Reveloution and Napoleonic Wars heve taken place when they did if ever?

Some prople think that when the French Reveloution started the UK
would have been hard pressed if the American Reveloution was still going on but I have doubts that the French Reveloution would even take place, at least then. Maybe some other type of European war would put the UK in a similar bind.

I don't think the French Revolution would have taken place without the American Revolution. Firstly, the success of the Americans in overthrowing British rule and establishing a republic greatly inspired the revolutionary forces in France. Secondly, without the American Revolution, France would have been in a more stable financial position and Louis XVI would not have had to call the Estates General (not in 1788, anyway).

As far as the Napoleonic Wars, the rise of Napoleon Bonaparte was such an unlikely occurrence that even the tiniest butterfly would be sufficient to prevent it from happening.

I disagree.
Firstly, the French economy was in desperate straits, and only getting worse. It is true that the war expenditures hastened the crisis, but a crisis was coming.

They might also have gotten majorly involved in eg the war of bavarian succession, which would have been about as bad as the arw, or even worse financially.

Secondly, i doubt the American Revolution had nearly as much of an encouragement as you think. They were very, very different. The arw was far more of a civil war, one part of a country breaking off from the heartland. The effective society in the 13 colonies was very little changed, really. You cant say that about the french revolution.
