American “Empire” Timeline

A wanton disregard of the butterfly effect (which a school of AH.commers, myself included, feels is paramount; you won't have the same people born after the POD, save perhaps name).

Speaking as someone of the "butterflies aren't the problem, jalapenos in your PB&J are." school...'tis still a problem.

Long lasting slavery and more slave states, empire-wank...those are the two main things that bother me far more than zombie FDR.

As a rule I'd prefer wanks to stay in ASB, but that's probably because we tend to agree far more than disagree :D

I mean that turning an OTL state into a hyperpower isn't realistic, so I tend to agree to plausibility checks.

Ah.

The thing that bothers me about hyperpowers is that they tend to involve everyone else just accepting the hyperpower, and/or being defeated easily.

Bad enough to try to make one in the first place, but they almost inevitably show ignorance of how hard these things are even to the extent success is possible.

Even the United States has a hard time making friends, and ensuring they remain friends.

And this is OTL, mind you.

I'm not sure I'd say "even", but agreed on the important part.

No one likes an expressionistic state.

Especially not those who have other plans for the areas it wants, a group that will steadily increase the larger the state in question gets.

1820
Maine becomes a state
No Missouri compromise (POD)
The Missouri Compromise was a response to real political problems. No Compromise, and whe get a 1828 ~1832 breakup of the Union.

Since this didn't happen ITTL ?What Took It's Place????

Definitely something to think about. There was a very strong All-Mexico movement, and Nicolas Trist had been recalled to Washington but he decided to stay on his own and negotiate.

With the great relationship between the US and the UK now sometimes its easy to forget that there was a great deal of tension between them that lasted about 1898.
