America-Russia Alliance

The basic premise of this comes from how Czarist Russia offered their support to the Union near the end of the American Civil War. So what would have happened if either France (as I don't Britain being willing or able to do so) had given the Confederates a bit more outright support, to the point that the war lasts a bit longer and Russia had been given the chance to help the Union or that Russia had offered their support some time earlier, to the point by the end of the war there's a firm friendship and alliance between the two countries?

Just how would this have effected the world?

Russia never really offered support. In 1863, the Polish rebellion brought a consideration of a joint Anglo-French intervention in Poland and the Russian Navy sent two (small) squadrons to the US, so they'd be in ice free ports if war occurred from the Anglo-French.

There was a lot of speculation in the US press that the Russians were going to aid the Union, but it was totally unfounded.

However, if they did it would be Federal States and Russia vs the rest of the world. France, Britain, Austria, Prussia, Italy, Bavaria, Saxony, Hanover, Portuga, Spain and the Ottomans potential allies.

You're right.:( I just did some checking out and found out that the site that I read that from was wrong. So thanks.

Anyhow what would happened if Russia had decided to support the Union and manged for some reason keep from going to war with Britain for a few years?
