The POD is in 1862 that's why I'm posting here.

Ok here is another one my ideas. In Short I wanted to get the US to join the CP in a non TL-191 format. Ie the South is defeated and the Union is saved.

The POD is in 1862 Mexico. At the Battle of Puebla the French win instead of the Republican Mexicans. Through this POD by the time the American Civil War is coming to a close the French have all but finished off the Republicans in Mexico. With Victory close at hand N3 decides to finish it and the Second Mexican Empire sticks. The British never agree to terms to the Alabama Claims and US-British relations suck because of this.

The US annexes Santo Domingo in 1870. It still buys Alaska in 1867. Spanish American War is caused by the Virginius Affair. That war last about a year with the US walking away with Cuba and PR.

In Europe you have the War of Emperors in 1870-72. This war redraws the borders of Europe. Austria Hungary falls apart. The Second French Empire still takes on the chin. Prussia leads this new United Germany which has Austria, Alsace-Lorraine, Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia. Italy and Russia both make gains. The Kingdom of Hungary is founded.

Frederick III lives for about five years longer than OTL and he makes reforms. But his son will still piss off the British.

The French build the Panama Canal.

Both the British and French more or less piss on the Monroe Doctrine in the 1880s daring the US to stop them more or less.

Would this be enough to force the US to buddy up with Germany and sign an alliance with the German Empire?

Edit: If you don't think this is enough please post why you don't think so.

Ah yes, a very possible POD, but it did requires the French to actively irritates the US.

But in that case, it will be the British who patch up relationship with the US and distanced themselves from the french.

WW1 Entete will be just French and Russians...

OTL the British WERE the Monroe Doctrine, at least the muscle for it; Neo European empires in the New World are bad for British free trade. I don't think the French can hold Mexico in the face of determined American opposition either, the Americans will flood the Republican rebels with arms, demonstrate across the border, and generally make life miserable.
