“For as long as I can remember him being in the band, Dave was always asking for us to do a Europe tour. I suppose he had fond memories of it back from his days with Scream. But Kurt had wanted us to build up a lot of popularity in the United States first before we tried getting famous in Europe.” – Krist Novoselic

“The Europe tour was awesome. Even though we hadn’t really toured it much before, they fucking loved us. We even got the crowds to sing along with our songs. We were immensely popular there without so much as a visit, which was a big shock to me.” – Dave Grohl

“After the tour, Kurt said we could take a month break. He stayed in the UK, while me and Dave returned to the States. We spent most of the time hanging out with the Melvins, or tagging along with Soundgarden’s tour. At one point, we even got invited on stage and jammed with Cornell, which was sweet.” – Krist Novoselic

“I had decided that I wanted to do a collaboration with Kurt in November. We met in Georgia, I played him some demos from Monster, and he played some Nirvana songs. We recorded it in three sessions, and then had Rain Phoenix come in and sing for us in this one song me and Kurt wrote, called ‘Let Me In’, which we dedicated to River. It was a very powerful song.” – Michael Stipe

4. Walking in Shadows – 2:32

6. Freedom – 2:11
7. Let Me In – 3:26

So, are you setting up Kurt with Rain Phoenix? If so, will it last, or will Kurt end up punching Joaquin Phoenix in the face?

Do we have any Radiohead aficionados on this site? How would I go about having Tom Yorke starting a solo career in the mid to late 90s, about a decade ahead of time? This doesn't necessarily involve breaking up Radiohead, although it can.

This would basically involve putting Radiohead on hiatus. It's hard to believe, but Radiohead was formed in 1985. The guys have known each other since they were 15 years old or so. On the other hand, you could have Kurt discover Radiohead and introduce them to Michael Stipe slightly early. In OTL, REM asked Radiohead to tour Europe with them after hearing their 1995 album, and Yorke says it was Stipe who taught him how to deal with the pressures of being famous.

No, but that is an interesting thought. I may see how that fits into my plans. Their ages are relatively close, so it could work out.

Nice! This is what I needed. Band connections are like following a web. For instance, Grohl and Kurt+Krist met via the Melvins, while Grohl was with Scream and Nirvana was in it's early days. I'm basically just trying to set up for multiple potential super bands at the moment, but I won't elaborate any more on that. ;)

You do realize the end result of all this is a Rock of Love starring Kurt Colbain? Some icons need to die young so they remain icons.

Elvis will always be eclipsed by Fat Elvis.

Not trying to be critical, just a little bit cynical.

I am well aware of this. But we're barely six months past his OTL death, and he's only moderately successful this time! Trust me, things will not all be good. I actually have the whole TL ready, but it's in a bland date format and I am having trouble making it more appealing.

I started this with the intentions of making everything good for Cobain, as I was a major fan. But then I became a Grohl fan, and the fact that this TL gets rid of the Foo Fighters and locks Grohl on one instrument twisted this TL into a dystopia in my mind. Things were then changed accordingly. :D
