Alternative wives for George III

In our timeline, George III married Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz shortly after he become king, and had a very happy marriage. I am working on a timeline where his father, Frederick, lives, and I want to work out whether the same marriage would still happen. Particularly as George will still be Prince of Wales in this timeline and Frederick may have influence. What would Frederick's criteria be for a good wife for his son, and would he even be that influential, given that he was more interested in his own drinking and sports?

You too? That idea seems almost heading towards an AH cliché by now... :D

Other than Thande, who else has done one?

Thande's timeline has some pretty dramatic events in them. I'm looking to do one a bit more boring, but (in my opinion) more likely. No exile to America, no marrying into the Washington family, no trans-Atlantic succession war in the 18th Century. It's more about George III not coming to power on time and thus continued dominance of the Whig magnates in parliament. I thus think it's a very different timeline.

I think I've got exactly what you're looking for: George III, as a young man, was very smitten with Lady_Sarah_Lennox, the daughter of the notable Whig Charles Lennox, Duke of Richmond, and also the sister of his son, a major Rockinghamite Whig. The Earl of Bute managed to convince George not to marry her precisely because he didn't want the 22 year old king to come under the sway of the Whigs.

Amusingly enough, if he had married her, he would have been the uncle by marriage of Charles James Fox.

Well, for one thing, I've sort-of started one myself: Began just over a year ago, unfortunately got bogged down for months both in research for it and in RL matters, recently announced my intention to resume that project. For example, yesterday I posted my most recent version of a map for that TL as I thought it would have developed by 1913: https://www.alternatehistory.com/discussion/showpost.php?p=7881104&postcount=3269.

And I'm sure that I've seen other references to the possibility (apart from Thande's TL, and of course the apperarances by a young-ish Fred [from a date that would have been before his OTL death, anyway, but in a situation where butterflies might well have led to him surviving for longer] as a minor character in' Arose From Out The Azure Main') before this as well.

Bute was tutor when Frederick was alive, so I can't see him having any less influence in this timeline. Also, wouldn't Frederick want someone most prestigious for his son? I was also wondering if he would want to cement some international alliance, or is that the wrong time in history for such thoughts?

My timeline, as you can see in my sig, has the actual POD as "Frederick lives" - specifically the cricket ball missing him due to minor wind movements. I don't know anyone else that has done that. If him living is just a likely outcome from any other change in the 1707-1751 period, that's a different matter. I thus don't think it's any more of a cliche than "the French Revolution doesn't happen" in pre-1780s timelines.
