Alternative Star Wars Movie decisions

David Prowse (The Darth Vader Actor) does the voice of Darth Vader not James Earl Jones

Prowse had the voice of a choirboy. When saw/heard the clips of the Tantive V scenes with the undbbed Vader audio, it sounded like George had dubbed in Tim Curry after a few poppers of helium.

My biggest change or suggestion would at the_very least_ in Episode 1 make Anakin in his late teens, I think the angst would be much more palpable and it wouldnt be such a jarring little-kid--grown adult transition

apropos is that rumor true that William Shatner audition at lukas for the role of Darth Vader ?

Never heard that before. While he'd be certainly theatrical enough for the role, I think that George Takei would have the better (i.e., deeper) voice.

What if Star Wars failed at the box office but Splinter of the Mind's Eye still went into production as a sequel? Han, Chewbacca, Lando and Yoda are eliminated as major characters, but we get a stronger Leia than got in later movies, and we see Vader defeated in a lightsaber duel. It doesn't have a darker storyline than ESB itself, but definitely a dark one for SW standards.

From what I've read, I'd agree. Even better, what if Splinter of the Mind's Eye aired on TV instead of the infamous Holiday Special? The story's set on one swamp planet, so they could keep the budget low.

There is no reason why the Wookies couldn't be more primitive. Simply because Chewbacca is trained to maintain the Milennium Falcon doesn't mean the entire race is equally adept. There were plenty of Chinese coolies repairing engines on gunboats and industrialists in the first few decades of the 20th century (as well as brilliant scientists and scholars), but it didn't mean China as a whole was an industrial power. Justifying the Wookies as being more primitive than the rest of the galaxy could be done in a few throwaway sentences during the mission op.

It doesn't mean the Wookies need to be stone age savages either. They could be explained as being purposefully undeveloped to keep them as slave laborers in building the second Death Star. It'd be interesting to see smart wookies working in forced labor factories overseen by Trandoshan foremen and Imperial officers. When the Wookies finally rise in rebellion, it'd make the defeat of the Imperial troops a whole lot more believable.

One sentence--this is a fantastic idea and analogy, and I wish it had occurred to Lucas.

while Takei does have a deeper voice, i don't think anyone would be able to take Vader seriously later in history, assuming Takei goes on to everything else in his life, especially becoming a facebook star (Takei is awesome, btw ;)). unfortunately, i don't know many other actors from the period who could conceivably voice-over Prowse (or whoever else) as well as James Earl Jones. the only one that occurs to me is Kevin Michael Richardson (probably best-known for voicing Captain Gantu in Lilo & Stitch, but he's all over the place in voice roles, much like Steve Blum) but he was only thirteen at the time of Ep4's release IOTL, with his earliest role being on The Simpsons starting in 1989

wait...an idea occurs to me...

if Star Wars is delayed a few years, then Kevin Conroy could voice Vader. think about it: at the end of the Original Trilogy, the Joker beats down Batman with a lightsaber :D

Anakin should have been in his late teens or early '20's as the first movie started. And he should have been a gladiator, not a slave.

I agree with this...though not necessarily a gladiator, as Obi-Wan does comment to Luke that Anakin was "Already a great pilot when I met him". Having him be either a younger, more rogue-ish version of Han or a pilot for some back planet defense force (like Tatooine or Naboo if Lucas must have those two planets) would have worked far better. On that though, Anakin being from Naboo and working for Amedila as her pilot instead of Tycho would have worked far better than the little slave boy that Lucas pushed instead...also Owen Lars could have still been Obi-Wan's brother like it was originally insinuated to be, thus not needing the convoluted back story of Shimi and her marrying Owen's dad.

Oddly, once Lucas got Daniels on camera, he almost ditched him because he didn't like the actor's robot voice. Lucas thought of Threepio more like a fast-talking used car salesman than a fussy butler.

"But sound designer Ben Burtt convinced George that my voice fit the character's personality and movements. I took a civilized voice and plunked it down in the middle of conflict. That's why he sounds cautious and know-it-all at the same time," Daniels said, lapsing into that familiar quick, crisp, metallic monotone. "I've grown quite fond of it."
Who could have been the voice of Threepio the car salesman?

I absolutely agree. My problem is less the step from boy-Anakin to late-teen-Anakin; but the age-difference between him and Amidala. Not only does she seem to be a good 8-10 years older than him; his character also doesn't develop traits which explain him being appealing to a more mature lady.

What IS understandable is that he adores her. Friendly, but consequential rejection would have been the natural end of the line. Nice Anakin going for the dark side in order to get the girl.... that would have been dark.
