Alternative Shires, Counties, and Earldoms

As it is come up with suggestions for alternative shires, counties, and earldoms for England explaining your choices.
And other members of the UK if you'd like.

So cheating with historical ones that fell out of use/no longer England:

  • Monmouthshire was weirdly annexed to England for a long time after Charles II or rather his judges annexed it so, somehow keep this being true.
  • Cardiganshire was the old name and still used and found for what is known as Ceredigion, though speaking personally this from my personal experience is a name revived akin to how Londonderry was revived when actions were taken against its previous small usage and is usually ignored in favour of Cardigan. Helps people think of the clothing as well. (This is Wales though, but different political developments might mean no resurrection of Wales)
  • Dublinshire might be a thing if for some reason Henry VIII or some other Tudor decides to annex it to England when they declare the Kingdom of Ireland. Maybe Elizabeth during Hugh O'Neill's bother or James I/VI on advice of Elizabethan advisors when he accedes. Same potentially for other parts of the former Pale.
  • Speaking of Pales; County of Calais, County-Palatine of Calais or maybe Kaleshire after the Flemish way.
  • Not sure if this counts, but we might also see Rutlandshire, Dorsetshire and Somersetshire remain popular rather than them as counties. Same for say a Northumberlandshire, Cornwallshire, Cumberlandshire etc etc.

Are we getting rid of the local government acts of 1888 and 1972, or subsequent changes, or changing the establishment of the counties after the Norman Conquest? The counties didn't come out of nowhere. They are administrative creations of the sovereign. They could be changed at any time.

Anything and everything!

Some ideas:
Sarishire - generally pronounced Sashire or Sarshire and is an alternate Wiltshire formed around Sarisbury [Salisbury] not Wilton.
Earl of Durham - with the lack of an Anarchy the bishops full foul of royal authority and their county rights get separated out.
Lothian or Earldom of Edinburgh - forms part of the Kingdom of Northumbria.

Well Stamford in Lincolnshire was for awhile an influential and important town. Briefly having a university one of the first in England. Placed geographically close to Rutland and out on a limb in south lincolnshire it could have become a county town encompassing what is now Rutland and parts of Otl lincolnshire so,

Stamfordshire
