Alternative Germanies

I don't see why the Communists couldn't take power. Yes, they would be in immediate danger, but the Poles couldn't do anything if Russia was friendly with a Communist regime, and the French wouldn't mind the discord to occupy some areas. In the long-term though, it threatens the French. May even (unlikely) see some Czech or Austrian intervention.

Germany would be a shithole though, torn between the Communists and Conservative counter-revolutionaries.

The two most likely outcomes are, depending on when and what your POD is, a Communist Räterepublik or an authoritarian presidential semi-dictatorship. THe earlierm, the more likely the former, the later, the more likely the latter. By 1933, the Communists were largely a spent force and even many moderates would welcome an authioritarian state if it promised to restore order. In the early 20s, it was touch and go.

IMHO, it wouldn't be long for this Communist Germany to come at odds with the Soviet Union. I don't think Germans would accept Stalin's unquestioned authority nor would Stalin accept to have an equal partner in the Communist movement. Provided, of course, butterflies spared him.

I could even see Communist Germany becoming a refuge for the likes of Zinoviev and the bunch.
