Alternative Atlantic opening...

Hi !

When the Atlantic opened, there were a bunch of other rifts which failed, stalled or became diagonal Aulacogens. Niger, Amazon etc occupy some of these...

Had the Atlantic unzipped along the Newark Supergroup, for instance, a bigger Iceland would probably lie beyond a smaller Greenland, which would be close to Norway. The shelter and sediment this provided might have saved Doggerland...

Scotland, Northern Ireland etc would look rather different as the famous 'Giant's Causeway' and related stuff would lie far to the West of current location. Certainly, Europe's coastline would be much less crinkly, more like the South Atlantic...

The English Channel would carry a river as grand as the Danube, with Rhine, Thames, Severn etc as proud tributaries. The Med would lie at the end of a narrow seaway, with a perpetual inward current at the surface...

Getting to the New World by the 'Northern Route' would be trivial.

Has any-one seen a plausible map for the geology & tectonics of this scenario ? And, perhaps, a clue to what happens else-where ?

Busy, busy, busy...

Being a 'Designated Carer' simply overwhelmed my creativity, Thande.

Then the REM-rebound from too many broken nights spawned the mild weirdness of 'Hunter's Night' & 'No Great Power', which are currently sinking without trace in 'Writers Forum' & 'ASB' area...

But, I still get the 'howlings' for my 'Solutrea' project. How do I do this ? How can I fix that ?? Now and again, I pick up a clue, put a small jigsaw piece into place...

Here's a map of an alternate South Atlantic rift.

would the channel even exist? from what i understand the channel was created when the glacial superlake in the northsea broke through in this location and eroded away the channel

When me and VT45 were discussing alternate Atlantises from the ancient Avalon Plate I found a site that depicted the various plates and movements around through time.
It would then be a case of modifying one of those and seeing where that takes you. Bit of a trial and error route though.
I'll have a look for hte link later
