A better explanation for what was going on: Germany was partitioned into the Republics: The West German Republic (AKA Hanover), the East German Republic (AKA Prussia) and the South German Republic (AKA Bavaria). Prussia was supposed to give territory to Russia, but the Bolsheviks granted the land back to Prussia in exchange for clandestine support and a base in the Civil War. In the end, the Russian Civil War dragged on until the Whites finally won, compromising with the Mensheviks to turn Russia into a Constitutional Monarchy controlled in actuality by the military from behind the throne. Meanwhile, in Europe, the People's Republic of Galicia and Hanover (under the Social Democrats) formed an alliance, which then incorporated Croatia and Denmark, becoming the Central European Federation (not unlike a more centralized version of the EU). Italy, meanwhile, formed an alliance with the Kingdom of Hungary and Romania, and invaded Albania.
As more states rolled into the European Federation, reactionary politics became mainstream in Great Britain, afraid of a new Great War. The turning point came when France joined the European Federation in 1941, thus catapulting Britain into an alliance with Italy and Spain against the Euros. After a brief campaign to subdue Belgium, the campaign turned into a new meatgrinder as the Euros had to overcome the Pyrenees and the Alps and the a war of maneuver went back and forth on the Danube. Both sides began to court the Russians and the Ottomans...
And that's all I've figured out so far.
