I like geography, if you'd couldn't tell. I also like naming things, particularly places. Etymology has always interested me, and it bothers me when a region has an exceptionally boring name (Southeast Asian Islands, for example) that you need cardinal directions and geologic features just to vaguely describe a place. You should know what a place sounds like just from hearing one word, two at the most. That's where you come in. Make a name for a region of the world that already has a terrible name. Here are mine:
Occidea: from Latin occidentalis which means "west." This is for South America.
Sahul: Australian continent. This was the name of the continent given by scientists for Ice-Age Australia.
Laurentia: From the St. Lawrence River, this is commonly used by scientists to denote the North American Craton.
Rawan: Anglicization of Thai word ระหว่าง which means between, indicating the Indochina Peninsula's location between Indian and Chinese cultural spheres.
Nusantara: Javanese word for Indonesia. nusa means "island" and antara means "within." This has historically been a name for Indonesia.
Rivninia: From Ukrainian рівнини which means "plains." This denotes the grand North European Plain that covers much of Eastern Europe, where most Slavs reside.
Nowara: Igbo for "coast" this denotes West Africa, especially the Nigeria region.
Mu: this term is for the Pacific Islands. This comes for the supposed lost continent Mu, proposed by James Churchward, which was in the Pacific.
