What if instead of becoming a republic, Barbados decided to have its own Queen?

This was inspired by a post on this thread where I mentioned a clerical fascist Mexico setting up pro-Mexican terrorist groups in America. No, it's not part of any timeline (purely because I don't know enough about American politics to come up with a plausible explanation for how this could happen) but it's something I got bored and made.

Again, there's no real PoD for this one; think of it as something along the lines of The Footprint of Mussolini, but with a weaker US and a stronger communist bloc (at least for now; when the - somehow not dead yet - Weimar Republic implodes and the dust settles, the results will be interesting to say the least).
If I ever get round to doing another infobox in this series, Charles Maurras or Carles Maurràs as he prefers to call himself TTL will make an appearance.

"Disillusioned with Illinois and the United States, Brigham set about planning the escape of his people to someplace else, where they could implement their theocratic vision of society and prepare for the millennium undisturbed. During Joseph’s lifetime, Texas, Oregon, California, and Vancouver Island had already been considered."
- Daniel Walker Howe, What Hath God Wrought (2007)*

"Despite concern from members of the Colonial Office and Company men, I am of the opinion they constitute a most resilient group capable of providing us a stronger grasp on the Pacific's shore. The harm done to their people makes them a clear enemy of the United States. They are willing to resist any attempts at American incorporation by force if necessary. So long as their Church and customs are respected, they can be an asset to the Crown in these lands."
- Governor James Douglas (1848)

"We have faith, we live by faith; we came to this Island by faith. We came here, I often say, though to the ears of some the expression may sound rather rude, naked and barefoot, and comparatively this is true."
- Brigham Young (1854)

*This is a real quote which inspired the infobox. The latter two are AH.

TTL's Deseret is OTL's Esquimalt?

TTL's Deseret is OTL's Esquimalt?
I was thinking more of the Cowichan Valley/Duncan area because it would give the initial Mormon settlement distance from the Brits at Fort Victoria and is a good agricultural region. Victoria and Esquimalt still exist, they're just less populated than OTL.

This thread seems to have a thing for turning starlets into high nobility - no wonder there's some overlap between AH.com users and NationStates users. :p

That said... Sophie Turner is actual Scottish nobility, so if Scotland ever needed a non-Stuart monarch... :p Edinburgh would be saddled with a Jonas Brother as prince consort, sure, but, whatever - it'd be the Game of Thrones ending Sophie deserved. :p

Uhm, no she isn't? Her family is from Northampton and her father works in a warehouse and her mother is a nurse. certainly not Scottish nobility.....

Can you tell me how to do that?
Sorry for the late reply, @mr Memer . I'll tell you how. Follow these steps:

  1. Go onto a Wikipedia article that has an election of some sorts. An example of this would be a US presidential election article, much like your infobox.
  2. Click on the edit button to edit the article.
  3. Check the coding for the candidates.
  4. For the first place winner, the info about them such as their name, photo, political party alliance (if necessary), home-state, running mate, popular vote, electoral vote, popular vote percentage and states carried will be listed as info1. Second place person info2 and so on and so forth.
  5. Once you're finished with your project, click on "show preview" and then take a snapshot of the infobox then save the snapshot.
  6. Add picture here.
Good luck with your next infobox.

The 1945 Russian State Duma election was held on the 7th October 1945, just over a month after the end of the Second World War, which had delayed the election twice since the intended end date of 1941 for the previous Duma. It saw substantial changes to Russia’s governance, including the new provinces and boundaries of the country (though some areas which were newly part of it did not have any citizens casting their votes at this election).

The years between the 1937 election and the 1939 declaration of the Second World War had seen continued antagonism between Bukharin and the Nazis and Italian Fascists, and while many Russians feared the consequences of violent conflict with these powers they continued to look favourably on the government for the most part, seeing that industrialisation was allowing more jobs thanks to militarisation and viewing Bukharin’s anti-Nazism as a patriotic bulwark. The government also allowed some migration of Jewish refugees into the Republic, though many of these refugees were either forced to live in remote eastern regions or victims of prejudice or even pogroms.

When the Second World War finally broke out, Russia had initially faced significant losses as it struggled to help Britain and France defend Poland, but due to tactical concerns the Axis focused on annexing much of the rest of Europe before trying to take control of Russia. This strategy allowed the Russian army to regroup, only for it to alienate Britain and the Free French by trying to invade Finland and Poland to recapture them.

After defeat in these efforts, during 1941 the Axis forces invaded Russia and began a strategy of siege, trying to force major Russian cities to capitulate. The losses this strategy caused to the cities of Petrograd and Volgograd caused some of the worst losses in the entire War, though in February 1943 the Axis were forced to surrender and over the following two years the Russian army advanced against them.

In early 1945, Russia started to push into Nazi Germany and its sphere of influence from the east as the Allies were approaching it from the west, most notably capturing the province of East Prussia and large parts of eastern Poland. After the unconditional surrender of the Nazis in May, Bukharin negotiated with then British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and US President Harry Truman to allow the annexation of the Baltic states, eastern Polish regions and northern East Prussia (with its principle city, Königsberg, renamed Kerenskygrad) into the Republic.

Despite this, the Second World War was not over for Russia at this time. A major condition of the addition of these lands that Bukharin agreed to was committing to supporting the Americans in the war in the East against Japan. This made him and the Bolsheviks deeply unpopular with European Russians, and both the SR (now led by Nikita Khrushchev) and Cadet (led by Pitirim Sorokin- ironically a former SR member) supported ‘peace within Russia’ and denounced Bukharin as a warmonger.

While this conflict was rendered largely moot by the American nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which prompted Japan to surrender, and before it occurred Russian forces successfully seized the island of Sakhalin and annexed it into Russia, the damage to Bukharin’s reputation was done, and many Russians were concerned by the enormous losses during the war and allegations of corruption by the Bolsheviks that had been aired by people like Viktor Kravchenko (a future Cadet minister elected to the Duma in 1945, incidentally) and Walter Krivitsky.

The race for the new Duma, electing 750 members from across the Russian Republic (though, as mentioned, several areas saw no votes, and their members were assigned to other regions as ‘top-up’ seats), saw Khrushchev’s SR win a very strong victory as the party embraced the new ideals of the welfare state and Keynesian economics that had been deeply influential in elections in other Allied nations like Britain and France. Cadet also recovered from its 1937 nadir thanks to Sorokin stressing it would be a moderating presence on the uncertainty of eastern European politics, particularly with regard to Germany and Poland (the latter because of far-left and far-right resistance forces clashing at this time). The Bolsheviks, meanwhile, recorded their worst result since 1921, and one of the steepest falls in seat totals in Russian history, as they fell from 318 seats to just 57. This would be the last election the party contested either with Bukharin as leader or under the name ‘Bolsheviks’, as Bukharin’s successor Georgy Malenkov would rename the party the Communist Party of Russia.

The big surprise of the election, however, was the National Organization. Founded by Moldovan teacher and anti-Russian activist Vasile Bătrânac, the National Organization was initially a protest group in Moldova alone, but after harassment by rightists and criticism in the Russian press Bătrânac formulated an alliance with other newly-annexed regions, particularly the Baltics, that wished for independence.

The National Organization became the third-largest party in the Duma with 68 seats and capitalized on anti-Russian discontent to win pluralities of the vote and members elected in Estonia, Karelia, Latvia, Lithuania and Moldova, but would also be the source of severe conflict with the incoming government, the beginning of a pattern in postwar Russia.

I don't know, the idea of Jeffrey Dean Morgan as an older evil Spider-Man saying "I'm gonna put some dirt in your eyes" made me laugh.
