Thomas Pinckney (October 23, 1750 – November 2, 1828) was an American statesman, diplomat, soldier, and Founding Father who served as the third Consul of the United States from 1804 to 1807. Previously, he served as the second vice consul of the United States from 1797 to 1804, the 36th Governor of South Carolina, and the U.S. minister to Great Britain. Ruling over a divided and war-torn country left by his predecessor, Pinckney presided over the 1805 royal elections which resulted in the ascension of Prussian prince Louis Ferdinand to the monarchy, the ratification of the Twelfth Amendment to the Constitution, and the end of the Franco-American War and the Yeoman's Rebellion.
Born into a prominent Charleston, South Carolina family, Pinckney studied in Europe before returning to America. He supported the independence cause and worked as an aide to General Horatio Gates. After the Revolutionary War, Pinckney managed his plantation and won election as Governor of South Carolina, serving from 1787 to 1789. He presided over the state convention which ratified the United States Constitution. In 1792, he accepted Consul George Washington's appointment to the position of minister to Britain, but was unable to win concessions regarding the impressment of American sailors. He also served as an envoy to Spain and negotiated the Treaty of San Lorenzo, which defined the border between Spain and the United States.

Pinckney would win election into the House of Representatives in the 1796 elections, being chosen as Alexander Hamilton's vice consul. As a vocal opponent of Hamilton's more controversial policies during his administration, he became a central figure of internal dissent within the Whig Party that led to Hamilton's eventual resignation in 1804. Upon assuming the consulship, Pinckney immediately went to work resolving the numerous issues that had plagued the nation─he would send a cohort of American diplomats to Paris to discuss peace negotiations with the French Empire, resulting in the Treaty of Paris that formally ended the war with a status quo ante bellum in June 1805. The royal crisis would also be addressed under his administration, with Pinckney presiding over the 1805 royal elections that led to the House of Representatives appointing Louis Ferdinand as the next King of the United States; the Twelfth Amendment, which made the monarchy a hereditary office and severely restricted the constitutional authority of the position, would also be passed and ratified during Pinckney's tenure.

The ongoing Yeoman's Rebellion in the southern and western frontier would be immediately addressed following the end of the Franco-American War─a decisive battle at Shelby's Station (at what is now known as Danville, Virginia) in April 1805 would disarm the military wing of the rebel movement and lead to peace negotiations in Baltimore, with Pinckney granting amnesty to the leaders of the rebellion and the four state governments. Foreign relations would be fully restored with France in the 1807 Treaties of Fontainebleau, restoring France's trading status as a most favored nation in economic affairs and cancelling all previous debts owed to the nation from the Revolutionary War.

Despite the numerous foreign and domestic policy successes achieved by Pinckney during his three-year tenure as Consul, Hamilton's absence from the Whigs would leave the party in an internal civil war between supporters of Pinckney's moderate non-partisan approach and devout supporters of Hamilton's American School of economics. This internal infighting would give way for Thomas Jefferson and the Patriot Party to triumph in the 1807 congressional elections, with Pinckney remaining in the House of Representatives until his retirement in 1810. He would return to his plantations in Charleston and would die at the age of 78 in 1828.

Many modern historians consider Pinckney to be one of the United States's greatest early consuls, praising him for his immense domestic and diplomatic achievements as consul in just a three-year timespan. Although his conservative views on slavery are often chastised by some of his more revisionist historians and biographers, public opinion and popular consensus continue to rank him highly among U.S. consuls.

Also, does anyone know a good way of cropping wikiboxes other than using the windows scissors? (or whatever it's called in English)
EDIT: Should be ranked 100th by population, not 112.

While I'm procrastinating my next election for my Führerreich TL I decided to make this unrelated "what if Star Trek Enterprise was never cancelled" infobox

Edit: I realized I forgot to give Ming-Na Wen (who's listed in the starring section) a role in the characters section. Oh well

Pandora's Box was a temporal distortion machine developed by American scientists in the 24th century with technology and materials stolen from the Qrondtians. Linearly, it was the first such machine developed by Humans. Due to the incompatibility of Human and Qrondtian technology, the device was highly unstable and was inadvertently activated three days after it was completed. It then vanished (from a 2311 perspective) and was temporally displaced to 1653, where it was discovered by the local Lakota people. The device arrived in an active state and began leaking temporal energy, causing the next three days to be repeated in a loop 11 times until it was cast into a great fire. The heat sealed the hole, ending the time loop, and the device was buried deep underground. It remained there for the next two centuries until it was stolen by the U.S. Army in 1870, who had heard stories of it. Thankfully, it remained stable during this time and was transported back to Washington, D.C., where it was presented to President Ulysses S. Grant. Believing it to be little more than a piece of art, it was displayed in the White House for another 35 years. In 1905, Quentin Roosevelt stole it and attempted to open it, but failed. He refused to tell anyone where he had hidden it and it was thought to be lost for another 30 years.

It was recovered in 1941, and was to be sent to a museum, but was confiscated by the Army when a scientist determined it was some sort of machine. In truth, this scientist was an agent from the 24th century sent to recover it. The identity of the agent is disputed, but is generally believed to either be Dr. Kellen DeVry, a pioneer of middle time science, departing at the age of 53, or future president Jase Reno, departing at the age of 28. Regardless, this agent was killed by legendary 28th century pirate Ys Magen, who recalled the story in her Book of Misdeeds. Local American scientists of the 1940s then began experimenting on it, which caused numerous temporal distortions. It was at this time that the device was named "Pandora's Box," as the scientists observed that terrible things emerged whenever they opened it. Having decided it was too dangerous to use, they built a containment module using Qrondt metal from a recently discovered site in Alaska, noticing that the metals had the same glyphs as the exterior of the Box. The Box, in its new casing, was sunk at sea, where it was believed to be secure.

During the 1950s and 60s, the United States government, as well as that of the Soviet Union, began observing more extranormal incidents and gained information from various temporal visitors. The extranormal cold war developed as a highly classified undercurrent of the actual Cold War. The U.S. decided to recover the Pandora's Box in case it would be needed as a weapon. It was then housed at a top secret military base beginning in 1967. After that, it was relocated several times in order to prevent its discovery. Several new containment modules were built as the previous ones disintegrated. Module transfers led to many leaks, the most notable of which occurred in 1997 and 2012. In 1997, a compound leak led to a time dilation which led to people feeling that the the next four years were passing slower than they should have. This leak was repaired in 2001. The 2012 leak was much larger and led to the beginning of Illusory Time, the period when people felt that time was passing when, in fact, it was not. A false leak in Illusory Time (which did not occur in real time) occurred in 2015 which led to Illusory Time speeding up.

In 2019, the so called "Area 51 raid" was announced on the internet, but the Department of the Exterior was aware that the raid was a ruse to distract from a planned assault of the Pandora Box's true location. The Knights of the Sixth Circle had uncovered its location in 2027 and were determined to recover it. As such, the Army came up with the brilliant idea of moving it to Area 51 while the Knights would expect it to still be in its old location. This proved to be a mistake. At Area 51, the containment module and the Box, previously in stasis mode, was shattered. The ensuing chaos was known as the Rupturing.

The primary effect of the Rupturing was the Reversal. Time began flowing backwards from the moment of the Box's destruction. Babies recently born were wiped out of existence. The dead returned to life. People began de-aging. Technology disappeared in the inverse order of its invention. The sun rose in the west and set in the east. After people got a handle on the situation, they began to search for ways to undo the Reversal. Scientists with the relevant knowledge scrambled to record all they knew before their memories were lost. It was determined that the only would be to find Pandora's Box and open it again. Thus, Exterior agents were brought to the secret base in order to experiment with the Box. However, there was a problem: the Box was no longer there. It turned out that people from further up the reversed timeline (ie, the past, which was now in their future) had come to the same conclusion, but as it was lost during their time, they traveled forward to a known location to steal the Box.

As a result of the cross time stream dual disappearances of the Box, the people of the main timeline had no choice but to wait until they arrived in the past to go forward and steal the Box from themselves again. In the interim, they had to learn how they would develop the technology to travel forward to steal it in the first place, as they would have to do so without possession of the Box. This was not solved in the first generation of the Reversal. The second generation of people, who were born entirely within the Reversal, were raised with full knowledge of the Box and other extranormal secrets. Additionally, technology began to be reinvented and by 1974, 2019 levels had been restored. Temporal engineers believed that if they were not able to recover the Box, they would have to wait until they had the technology to build a completely new Box. As the original one was built in the 24th century, a perfectly linear reversal implied that the technology to build a new Box would be available in the 18th century. The Box was not recovered at its theoretical point of theft, 1926, probably due to a paradox, and the 18th century theory was adopted by all.

In 1804, the first manned interstellar mission embarked to the Qrondt world in order to obtain the things necessary to build a new Box. However, upon arrival, the humans learned that Qrondt society had collapsed after the Reversal and had not recovered the way Earth did. As such, their temporal technology had not been reinvented. The humans decided to take Qrondt metal back to Earth to see if they could redevelop it themselves. After 30 years, they determined they could not. In 1769, another mission embarked to see if any other worlds beyond the Qrondt had recovered or developed temporal technology on their own. This mission also proved unfruitful. Human experimentation and exploration continued for the next decade when a breakthrough was made in 1756. The Vlond star, which was near to the Qrond world, had collapsed into a black hole. Initial probes indicated that the black hole was connected to a white hole and would, in effect, function as a temporal tunnel. A new expedition was sent through the hole to travel to a different time.

The expedition expected to return to the linear past but instead emerged in the temporal past, arriving in Reversal 2010, two years before the original theft of the Box. Not wanting to disrupt these people and condemn another timeline to their same fate, the expedition opened the Box and contained some of the released in Qrondt metal. They then returned to the white hole, which was a black hole on this side, and made the journey back home. They emerged in temporal 1721 and delivered the captured energy to the scientists. A new Box was built and then destroyed in order to reverse the Reversal and restore forwards time. However, although time was redirected, the people were now in forwards 1721. There was great debate as to whether they should attempt a return to the Rupture (2019), or to 2217, which was of equal distance to 2019 was 1721 was, and would therefore be a comparable time period. Ultimately it was decided to remain in forwards 1721.

At the Rupture, the Reversal was not the only effect. The prime timeline was divided, with one timeline being the Reversal. The other was the Recursion. Forward time progressed as normal, but the Box was thought be destroyed at the Rupturing. At the building of the Box in Recursion-Prime 2311, the Box disappeared as in the prime timeline, but instead of being sent to 1653, the Box returned to the Rupturing in 2019. This was the beginning of the Recursion. In the Recursion timeline, the Box was kept secret by the government, while a new Box would also be built in 2311. Then the previous Box and the 2311 Box both went back to 2019. This cycle repeated itself several times, with another Box being added after each Recursion. After 23 Recursions, the the building of new 2311 Boxes was ended, but all 23 Boxes continued to return to 2019 without fail. After another four Recursions, it was decided to destroy all the Boxes for good. In order to avoid temporal consequences, the Boxes were detonated on the edge of a black hole. However, this did not have the intended effect. The Boxes simply opened a temporal bridge to the Reversal, specifically at the point of forward 1723. This was because in forward 1723, the people of the Reversal had decided to stay in their new forward time and destroyed the last of their temporal energy (which had been stolen from Reversal-2 2010) on the edge of the same black hole.

The bridge between the two universes at two different points in time led to the destruction of both to create a new universe in which the matter of one universe was located in the exact same place as its counterpart from the other universe. This was possible due to quantum coexistence. Additionally, the time of the new quantum universe was 2017, the midpoint between 1723 and 2311. However, the temporal explosions at the black hole, now known as the Collision Point, continued to expand and would soon engulf the entire universe. The only way to stop this would be if both of the former universes could stop it at the same time. This necessitated the invention of quantum communications. The 1723 universe accomplished this in one year, while the 2311 world did not do so for another four years. After establishing communication, the two parallel universes concluded that the only way to save the universe would be to harness the expanding temporal energy and use it to freeze time forever.

After developing and deploying the technology to freeze time, the expansion of the temporal energy ceased in the quantum universe. However, the energy had to travel somewhere, and thus began spreading through the Collision Point, emerging at the two greatest points of temporal activity in the prime timeline: 2311, the invention of the Box, and 1653, the point where the Box would be deposited. The emergent energy served as a gateway through which the Box traveled from 2311 to 1653. From these two points, the temporal energy traveled forwards and backwards through time before reaching a new Collision Point in 2012. The reason the waves did not meet exactly in the middle (1982) was because time moves faster forwards than it does backwards, though not by much. The meeting of the wave was known as the End of Time, a slight misnomer as time did not actually end. Instead, the explosion traveled through all universes at all times and led to the dissipation of temporal energy. A new prime timeline was born in this 2012, at the point when Illusory Time originally began. Devoid of all the energy it once contained, the Box in this 2012 simply imploded. Time then began to proceed normally in this universe, with no time travel ever being developed and no one being the wiser.

The 1950's in America were a strange time. From the constant new deal ideologies clashing with a resurgence in conservative thinking with the election of Harold Stassen in 1948 to the radical ideas of homosexuality demanding to be normalized within first the armed forces, then american society itself. Among all the assassinated gay rights activists, civil rights activists and religious leaders emerged one of the latter category, a young bishop from Georgia and one act of disobedience by an exhausted black woman on an Alabama bus rose to prominance as the spearhead of the society of roses.

While the conservative government slandered such liberal groups as "communist", there seemed to be a grain of truth to the message they were sending the people: The time has come for alteration. Alteration and change were the forces actively pushing agaisnt the conservative reactionaries and hardliners within the Hoover administration. After blanket charges of communist sympathy and a well publicized incident with the military, a coup deposed Herbert Hoover in 1960 and promised change.

The proposed change was slowed down hard in the legislative means, with southern senators working in droves agaisnt progressive legislation prepared by a friendly house and actively pushed for by Admiral-President Ernest King. His Anglophobia was too much of a liability with the military and relations with Churchill, and so was forced to resign in favor of Martin Luther King in 1961. The First black president of the united states was too much for many southern states to swallow this early, and so introduced even harsher "King Laws" while threatening to secede. The overturning by a conservative court of Texas v. White didn't help matters either.

Enter stage left Barry Goldwater, a senator from Arizona who stood as the conservative standard bearer for the American Union party. While facing off against their historical rivals of the Liberal Confederacy, the party unexpectedly collapsed with the death of Quentin Roosevelt in 1959. The ensuing power vacum enabled snap senate elections to be filled with AU friendly governors, giving them 85 of the 100 seats in the senate and 400 of the 437 house of representative seats.

After mass approving several sweeping political changes such as the abolishment of term limits for all political offices and enabling the election of Supreme Court Judges every 10 years as a way to balance it out, Goldwater announced his candidacy for president as the American Union's presumptive nominee and unofficial president-elect before the election had started.

Handpicking Curtis LeMay despite their disagreements on aliens and foreign policy, also opted for an assignment of Douglas MacArthur to the new post of Chancellor.
Come election day with mandatory voting being instituted and counting up over a hundred million votes later, Barry Goldwater narrowly won with all 50 states compared to his nearest opponent, which got an impressive total of 0 votes, a new record compared to the next seven elections, where Goldwater's opponents would be given negative vote totals in the millions to give the illusion of democracy.

Throughout his reign, Goldwater maintained stability and strength within the United States with a hands off approach to the economy in allowing private enterprise into the country unmolested, provided no political dissidents rose up. In terms of foreign policy he would frequently intervene in mexico, france and with the Roman People's Republic. Despite threats of hellfire from St. Petersberg, little in the way came of it. Though there were noticeably american foreign policy blunders in the countries of the Philipines and Oman, where military action led to bloody civil wars which still linger on to this day. In terms of economic policy, the government usually only stepped in when private enterprises failed, with mixed results depending on industry. There was also this question of his cult of personality.

Before the 1976 US Elections on the bicentenial, There were elaborate displays of affection by the people of america for the glory of goldwater. Mass westerns and almost everything southwest touched every corner of the country. Bobble heads of their "Grand Leader" were mandatory in schools and to children, with the singing of praises and the adding of Goldwater's head to Mount Rushmore while destroying the monument. The Statue of Liberty was replaced with the Cowboy of Liberty, which was a massive statue of Goldwater riding a bucking stallion to remind people who ruled them.

His personal pubic appearances slowed down in the early 90s, with his increasing age limiting his overall state functions. Rumors swirled around that he would step down by the 1996 election. Despite all this, he announced his candidacy for President at the age of 87. It was in this climate that he naievly allowed a single political opposition party to be announced, though with a smoke room back deal that stipulated the states they were to win and to purposefully lose the election.

The taste of real democracy was still a facade, and the cult of personality still gripped strong on many Americans, who still enjoyed Goldwater as the "grand leader" and "most beloved god". The latter part rather frightened Goldwater, as he increasingly turned liberal with his ideas throughout the early 90s. Despite his best efforts, however, Temples of Goldwater were erected everywhere throughout the country. He soon reluctantly allowed them to stay, despite his personal misgivings about being declared a god.

The 1996 election saw George Wallace, a long time accomplice and ally of Goldwater, "turn his back" halfheartedly in order to become an opposition force. The second voice in american politics known as the Conservative Democratic Union was nothing more than a slightly independent puppet of the American Union's political machines. The deal agreed to at the convention was to have the CDU win only the states of their presidential candidate and running mate. This meant that longtime Senator John Stennis of Mississippi was temporarily resigning from the senate in order to take up the post. The convention room of the CDU was just a saloon within Mobile,Alabama.

Come election day, the American Union and Goldwater would win yet another election with 48 states and 99.3% of the popular vote. America seemed to be going well with the president's most recent election, with him immediately announcing a presidential run in 2000.

A Presidential run which would never occur...

Goldwater was found dead in his bathroom at 6:23 AM, hand clutched over his heart tightly when they found him. The country was stunned, with the president they had loved and worshiped for over 34 years being dead. This shattered the theories of immortality, yet the party hardliners refused to believe such a thing had occurred. This left the American Union political elites scrambling to fill the power vacuum which was initially filled with Thad Cochran, who would be deposed in a bloody coup in 1999 to enable war hero George H.W Bush to take over the country.

Bush would give a secret speech to the Senate that condemned many of the war crimes that Goldwater had conducted over his reign, including the Hard Winter of 1967, in which a mass famine due to incompetent government officials and Goldwater's Anti-Semitic policies (despite his father being jewish) led to the deaths of over 400,000 in the bread basket states. There were also failed policies of mass industrialization of the farm states, such as a failed attempt to dam the Mississippi which led to disastrous floods in 1972 to 1974. The hard political infighting within Washington was so great that Bush would be ousted in 2004 and replaced with fellow Arizonan John McCain, who leads the nation to this day.

Are you trying to start a flame war? Why would Goldwater enact antisemitic laws? He never expressed anti-Jewish sentiment once in his private writings.

Woah woah woah, That's not my intention at all.

I was mostly doing the anti semetic thing off of Stalin's purge of Jewish doctors. I mean sure it does get sort of confusing considering Goldwater had a Jewish father. Goldwater is almost poisoned during a 1968 campaign rally by a bunch of anti-authoritarian and ultra-orthodox jewish militant groups. After a connection with their funding by Israel is uncovered, Goldwater turns hard into an antisemitic, despite internal confusion over what his father would have wanted. This becomes easier and easier as time goes on, however, and his reluctant permission to be turned into a religion by himself via the cult of personality being kicked up to an 11 gives antisemitic groups the political justification and excuse to commit hate crimes against Jews.

He does not look impressed that he ONLY won 99.3% of the popular vote.
It's his worst ever showing in an election from an opposition he himself organized as a puppet. He was in danger of loosing Louisiana when the CDU membership thought they were supposed to actually campaign for president instead of just letting Goldwater win again.
Although Wallace just looks cranky tbh.
