Gentleman Biaggi: 2075 Greenland coup d'état
If you asked anyone familiar with Greenlandic Politics if Greenland would be a nation that both sides would be fighting for in the Second Cold War at the beginning of the Second Cold War they would've laughed. Back in the 2030s, Greenland was a nation dominated by Left-wing politics and had been since it was allowed to hold elections. It was expected to continue that trend for years. However, after the 2073, Atassut (Solidarity) managed to form a "Master Coalition" with Reform, Demokraatit (Democrat), and Partii Naleraq (Point of Orientation Party) while Inuit Ataqatigiit (Community of the People) and Siumut (Forward) squabbled in a overly divided parliament and couldn't form a majority. After this, Kim Olson ascended to the Prime Minister position.

Even after the Coalition was formed the Reform Party continued its flamboyancy, if you will. The Party disagreed with the often moderate coalition and they wanted change. That led to the infamous events of April 14, 2076. Minister of Defense John Hansen called in a group of military officers to arrest Olson. After Olson was arrested, John Hansen made a speech announcing that everything was under control and that he was taking power. The nation of Greenland went from the "Left Powers" supported nation, to one supported by Russia and their allies. While the overthrow may have occurred in a small nation, it would have massive effects for the rest of the Second Cold War....

A box from my timeline in which Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil are both brought down by a major scandal right before Election Day '22, and allows Sinn Féin, under TD Mary Lou McDonald, to ascend to power.
Serious political, social, and economic changes to our fair Republic ensue.

Dear god. Did they erase the whole "peaceful means with the consent of a majority of the people, democratically expressed, in both jurisdictions in the island." bit from the Constitution (or worse, undo the Article 2/3 modifications of the 19th Amendment enitrely)?

Well, (minor plot spoilers) the Sinn Féin government tries to paint this as 'getting true representation for all', but the wording means the Taoiseach appoints representatives to serve Northern Ireland. Which in effect means she gets to appoint a fifth of the Dáil.
Which opens her up to being able to get away with all sorts of things, seeing how the Sinn Féin machine can make life terrible for anyone in the party who opposes them.

InfernoMole: 2176 United States presidential election
The United States presidential election, 2176 was the 98th quadrennial presidential election in the USA, held in two rounds on October 7th and November 7th respectively.

The first round of the election was extremely tense and turbulent, marked, among many other things, by the meteoric rise of Daniel Inouye de Wong, three-time Governor of Calypso, Admiral of the United States Space Navy and Governor-General and Administrator of God knows how many planets, planetary territories, moons and teeny-weeny asteroids. Although remembered as a bright, innovative and extremely competent strategist, as well as an extraordinarily intelligent and physically fit young man, by 2176 de Wong was already almost 82 years old and no longer truly fit for leading spaceship battalions to the front. Despite this, de Wong remained an ambitious, skilled man. A patriot to the core, de Wong founded the Imperial Party in St. Petersburg, Florida in the year 2173.

Among other issues were the policies of the space-friendly Asperant Party on independent spaceship companies, viewed as "lax" by the Democratic-Republicans, the economic crisis of the 2170s, the "neoglobalist" overtures of President Sebastian Gottschalk, the controversial legacy of the Gottschalk Housing-Feeding Scheme, which led to the inhabitants of the slums of the inner cities to become enslaved to energy farms (as the other parties viewed it), and a mostly unsuccessful foreign policy, what's with the Galician War and all. Worse yet, several floods happened during Gottschalk's tenure, including a particularly catastrophic one in Louisiana, Gottschalk's home state. Gottschalk's perceived inability to deal with the flooding and attempts to cover it up severely damaged Gottschalk's approval ratings.

As such, the people grew discontent with the continued control of the Asperants over USA. Just before the election, Mississippi governor and labor leader Nick Parris announced his run, representing the socialist People's Jubilee party, and chose Greenlandian representative Anders Shou for Vice Presidential nominee. De Wong was uniformly chosen at the 2176 Imperial National Convention to run for President, and picked North Dakotan rocket industry businessman Graham R. Catlow for Vice President.

The Asperant National Convention was a lot more divided. Initially, it seemed that Vice President Temur Watts, former Senator from New Jersey, would be the Asperant nominee. However, his unclear origins, political gaffes and alleged attempts to sell citizenship to an Ukrainian magnate got him only fifth place. The main competitors were Thaddeus Goodlion (born Tadas Gudelionis), Secretary of Labor and former Governor of Illinois, and Corrinell Lockwood, Governor of Armstrong. In a tough battle, Corrinell Lockwood won the nomination, though detractors stated it was only due to Goodlion being ill. Lockwood became popular thanks to his moderate views on housing, ambitious "American Expansion Program", popularity among Colonials and Terrans, and charismatic personality, with his slogan "A New Century for America!" being particularly popular. Corrinell Lockwood chose Arius Babayan, Governor of California, media mogul, for Vice President.

The Democratic-Republicans saw their chance. Barred from national politics for at least 20 years, the fiscally conservative, "pro-Earth" Democratic-Republicans were not viewed as a serious contender by the pro-Asperant media, with some Asperant politicians and talk show hosts even joking that the Imperial Party might replace the Dem-Reps as the "rival party". However, after defeating her main rivals, Senate Minority Leader Florence M. Hampton from Georgia and Senator George Babinski from Ohio, Pearl Walton, mere Lieutenant Governor of Maryland, experienced a meteoric rise. Called a "neo-socialist" and "sociopath" by establishment Dem-Reps, Walton was intelligent and somewhat aloof at first glance. However, Walton became a highly successful candidate, her passive-aggressive attacks on other nominees, extensive campaigns in various states, and philanthropic reputation allowed her to win enormous amounts of popular vote in states that were once considered firmly Asperant. Her running mate, former Governor Patrick Burgess of Connecticut, was also quite popular among the populace.

As candidates failed to win 402 or more electoral votes, a runoff election was held between Lockwood and Walton. The outcome of the first round even caused a few protests from de Wongites, who accused Lockwood and Walton alike of "vote fraud". But the election continued nonetheless, as Lockwood and Walton campaigned fiercely across the several states of America. In the end, however, Walton achieved an unexpected victory, with almost 53% of the popular vote. Notably, this caused Pearl Walton to proclaim "The people have spoken!" before a cheering crowd of supporters on Election Day.

Glide08: Karelo-Finnish Soviet Socialist Republic (Bizzaropedia)
dTSQ2yO.png

The Karelo-Finnish Soviet Socialist Republic (Karelo-Finnish SSR, Finnish: Карялаис-Суомалаинен Сосиалистинен Неувостотасавалта Karjalais-Suomalainen Sosialistinen Neuvostotasavalta, Swedish: Карелск-Финска Сўсиялистиска Советрепубликен Karelsk-finska socialistiska sovjetrepubliken, Russian: Карело-Финская Советская Социалистическая Республика Karelo-Finskaya Sovetskaya Sotsialisticheskaya Respublika), also called Soviet Finland or simply known as Finland, was a republic of the Soviet Union. Though it de jure existed from 1940, it only had control over Karelia until the Soviet Pyrrhic victory in the Continuation War, where all of the Territories of the Republic of Finland (1919-1944), including the Åland Islands, were transferred to it...

And with Finland being annexed to the Soviets, you'd have to wonder what'll be the Bizzaro-equivalent for Finlandization...
or not. It's "Czechoslovakization". It was Czechoslovakia (and also, Hungary post-1956) which kept its old political system yet still bowed down to the Soviets in matters of foreign affairs. Speaking of which...

King of the Uzbeks: 2068 Argentine Antartica status referendum (May We Never Tame It)
May we never tame it
2064 Election
Alexander Island Crisis
2067 Leadership Elections
2067 Election

ref2068complete.PNG

Despite some last minute wording changes provoking fears of tampering the Argentine Referendum went smoothly, and a clear majority were in favor of uniting the continent under McMurdo. The government immediately caused controversy by passing the Election Extension Act, which simply applied the percentages from the 2067 election on the full 400 seat Antarctic Assembly to determine the new seating. Jahn would later claim that this was done because a) Antarctica's Electoral Laws simply did not provide for local elections to the Assembly (which she called an "extreme oversight" of the Constitutional Committee) and b) she felt that calling another general election would destabilize the young country. The EEA left an extremely bitter taste in the mouths of many of Antarctica's newest residents, with the first city elections in the former Argentine Capital of Esperanza returning a Conservative Mayor and 2 Councilmen from the Movimiento de Independencia de la Península (MIP). Despite these hiccups Jahn remained broadly popular with the rest of Antarctica and retained a solid base of support in the Peninsula as the women who united Antarctica. But her Antarctic Party was about to take a hit.

actra.PNG

Unions in Antarctic had always been an odd beast, divided between the newer, more classically blue collar workers on the oil rigs and in the mines, and the older members, hold outs from when many workers had worked for various colonial governments and unions were more of a way to discretely organize. ACTRA had been one of the earliest pan-Antarctic Institutions and had played a crucial role in the independence movement bringing the workers of the towns into what had previously been a movement situated in the bases and outposts. ACTRA was a strong backer of Justice Delegate Jorge Thomas before he endorsed Jahn in exchange for his position. ACTRA had been advocating in favor of economic expansion and projects since independence, but capital had been lacking. However in September 2068 the Government announced a Legislative Package aimed at establishing the Co-Operative Economic Expansion Project (COEEP). COEEP would establish corporations in various industries from satellite technology to road construction. These corporations would be partially owned by the Government and the unions associated with the industry but also feature substantial investment from international companies who would reap the promised rewards. Jahn and Thomas assured ACTRA that the Government would be a fair part owner and protect from cooperate overreach. ACTRA approved of the bill, giving members the ability to buy into COEEP Companies. But Jahn faced a riotous faction in the Assembly. The Environmental Wing of the Party had been mollified in 2063 by legislative promises, but they viewed the COEEP Program's proposed extreme development as dangerous to the environment, particularly as many of the proposed international partners had spotty environmental records. In a dramatic scene on the assembly floor 102 some delegates voted against the bill, easily the most opposition a bill had ever faced in the Assembly. The Bill still easily passed, and 72 of those 102 walked out of the Antarctic Party in protest.

ecoparty.PNG

Upon her hasty selection by the party caucus as leader of the as-of-yet unnamed party Stacey Yates became leader of the opposition, her 72 seats numbering more then the Conservative's 32. The new party faced the awkward position many Antarctic Environmentalists had faced. The Continent, populated by scientists, their descendants, and coastal dwellers facing rising seas, was ripe for political gain. The independence movement had been spurred on by environmental disasters. Yet the "Green Party" label would strike a bad chord as almost everything green in Antarctica was unnatural. Yates accepted green as the party color, but refrained from the typical flower imagery and chose the name Ecological Party instead.
