The Charlottesville Collective is the current governing Presidium of the United States. Formed in 2018 after the dissolution of the Holland Presidium, the Charlottesville Collective returned to the principles of limited state authority that had been ignored in recent years.

In August 2018, Quartermaster General John S. McCain III ADM died of brain cancer. With his death, White House Chief Usher Preston Sinclair III assumed his caretaker duties as part of the traditional tranistion of power and dismissed OMB Director George Wayne Holland. Holland had become a widely unpopular official for his statist tendencies, especially in his later years, when he threatened to introduce restrictions on corporations and re-establish a federal judiciary. Sinclair then ordered the formation of a new presidium that would uphold the American principles of liberty. Following internal reviews and elections, the new heads of the central agencies met in Charlottesville, Virginia to discuss the formation of the next government. After three weeks of debate, new OMB Director Blake Castle was selected as Executor. Though the position was generally held by the OMB Director, there was significant debate over the choice due the excess of Holland. However, Castle had established himself as an opponent of Holland and gained the support of GSA Administrator Angela Harcourt, thus forming an alliance of two of the Big Three. Field Marshal Lexington Kirby of the Civil Defense Corps, as leader of the lawmen, was a long time opponent of the taxmen, and therefore both Holland and Sinclair. He vigorously opposed the forming alliance, but the Corps was outnumbered by the other agencies.

With Castle and Harcourt in alignment, IRS Commissioner Kissimmee Smith succumbed to internal pressure and joined the pact. After the Big Three were re-united, the Chamber of American Banks and the Foreign Service Corps agreed to sign the Charlottesville Agreement, thus reaching the 5 agency threshold necessary to form a presidium collective. Castle appointed Harcourt and Smith to their traditional roles as Deputies. Sinclair received Castle as Executor on 22 September and granted him the Gold Star of Government for a five year contract. The presidium was acknowledged by the United States Congress later that day and Castle was submerged in the Potomac River to consecrate his tenure as Executor.

The first act of the Charlottesville Collective as the governing presidium was to acknowledge RADM Joe Sestak as the new Quartermaster General. Since then, the presidium passed the 2019 and 2020 budgets without issue in accordance with the 2014 edition of the Internal Revenue Code. These budgets have been celebrated for minimizing federal intake yet maintaining a generous disbursement of non-discretionary funding. Despite being popular in the United States, international economists have predicted that the large tax cuts portend economic crisis for the hermit republic in the years to come.

this is absolutely wild and I'm so interested

Polish Colonial series pt.8: "Peace" programme and the International Space Station
<< part 7 -

After successfully sending first man to space, Polish space program did not rest on its laurels. Polish government with it's prestige at stake, had big ambitions - send man to the Moon. Concept was born in Polish Space Agency - build a orbital space

station, that would serve as launch pad for not only lunar mission but also future, interplanetary missions. It's first module was sent to space in March 1972. However Poles had also reached out to other agencies - namely Italian, French and British to help construct other modules, which could hopefully also serve as an international, scientific research station. This is how what is now known as International Space Station was created.

United States however were outraged, as Poles have beaten them to space. Seeing international cooperation on the Space Station, it was decided that an American astronauts need to be first on the moon - with help of a Soviet cosmonaut. Soviet Union also being in back of a proverbial peloton, started a joint endavour with USA and NASA - the Peace (or Мир in Russian) programme. After multiple test flights and orbital flybys, on 16 June 1971, N-1 rocket took Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Alexei Leonov from Kennedy Space Center towards the Moon. On televised event, astronauts planted American and Soviet flags and conducted multiple scientific experiments. They have returned home with lunar rocks, which were later researched by American and Russian scientists.

Permament presence on the International Space Station started in 1979, when Polish and British scientists were sent on the station, aboard Hermes spaceplanes, and conducted zero-gravity experiments. Space Station endavour was later joined by Soviet and American space agencies - together assembling a space station that allows for presence of research crews and docking of spacecraft, which proved to be great conevenience in future Lunar and Martian missions.

Arkham

To say the Arkhams of Gotham have had their impact on the city would be an understatement. Considering they literally founded it in the 1600's. For almost two centuries regarded as the "First Family of Gotham" not only in origin but also prestige (until the Waynes came in as stole the title during the 19th century), the family's most famous member must certainly be good Amadeus.

Born to the controversial partnership of two second cousins in the Gigantic gothic monstrosity that was Arkham Manor (on his own private island notheless), Amadeus Arkham was raised by his widowed mother, Elizabeth. Though opinions differ, most specialists believe Elizabeth suffered from an acute case of Paranoid schizophrenia. One can only imagine how life must've been to this child, growing alone in an isolated castle with nobody but servants and a unstable parent to keep him company. Perhaps that is the reason that, from a young age, Amadeus turned his house into a haven for artists, free-thinkers and aspiring youths of all sorts. For some years, Arkham Island became a bastion of art. Among the many influential figures that would come to inhabit the mansion during these years was the famous writer and feminist Millie Jane Cobblepot. After coming to clashes with her family over her refusal to marry and their apparent corruption, Cobblepot found herself a guest in Arkham Manor, living there from 1856 to 1861. In fact, it became a open secret that she and Amadeus were engaged in a personal relationship. It was under the pen-name of Amity Arkham that Cobblepot wrote her masterpiece, Liliac Girls. Alas her independent spirit had the best of her, and she soon departed to Metropolis across the bay, to live there as a bachelor.

Not long after Amadeus married famous jornalist and sufragette Constance Vale. Born in Kansas, Vale soon moved on to the big city in search of exitement. Her inquisitive and independent mind guided her for a great career in journalism and critical writing. The first female reporter in the history of our very own Gotham Gazette (and all of Gotham for that matter), she quickly caught the attention of Amadeus, and became a regular at Arkham. They married in 1864, and soon had a daughter, Harriet.
1588895194534.png

In 1866 the old and infirm Elizabeth Arkham (who had her own isolated wing of the manor for herself) perished. Amadeus became devouted to the treatment of mentally ill individuals. A great advocate for the construction of a mental institution in Gotham, Amadeus' pleas fell on deaf ears. So he decided to build his own. The conversion of Arkham Manor into what would become Arkham Asylum took years of planning. the family financial situation was far from what it had once been. So Amadeus sold huge portions of land to the city in order to pay for the project (it is estimated that over a third of the Gotham Metropolitan Area once resided in Arkham land). In the meantime, Amadeus moved to Metropolis, to work as a psychiatrist in a local mental institution. There the family lived happily for some years before returning in 1870. In 1873, a few short months before the completion of the asylum, a patient of Amadeus, Martin "Mad Dog" Hawkins (who every true crime enthusiast will be familiar with), escaped from the mental institution in Metropolis and made his way to Gotham. His reasons are unknown. The man was deranged and a convicted serial murderer. What we do know is that Hawkins broke into the Arkham family residence, murdered Constance, violated and then decapitated 7 year old Harriet (fleeing with her head).

The Arkham murders were dubbed the crime of the century. It remained in the public counsciousness, and has been culturally linked to the Wayne murder of 1994. In some dark ironic twist, Mad Dog Hawkins became the first patient at Arkham Asylum. Amadeus personally testified in court that the man was insane, and should not receive the death penalty. He pledged himself to curing the man. Two years later, in a event that is wildy discussed by biographers, Hawkins was accidentaly killed during an early type of electroshock treatment. Amadeus mental state deteriorated after that. Some argue it was genetic, while at the time it was attributed to a curse upon the family. By 1885 Amadeus was a patient in his own institution. There he remained, scratching at the walls, untill his death at the old age of 99.

- A look at Arkham Asylum, by Jack Ryder. Gotham Gazette.

I had some free time on my hands so I came up with a list of Presidents. POD is that Johnson, while impeached narrowly in the house, fails to get anywhere close to the needed majority in the Senate. He's able to turn this momentum into success in the midterms and wins election to a full term in 1868 and re-election in 1872. A Johnson ally is rewarded with the presidency immediately afterwards, followed by a pair of civil war veterans. Johnson then decides that the presidency is better than being a Tennessee Senator and so wins two more terms, solely off the back of his former experience as President and riding the wave of military victories against Spain that President Custer launched.

The 2020 French general election was held on 19 April and 3 May 2020 to elect, under a two-round multiple non-transferable voting system, also known as plurality-at-large voting, the 602 members of the Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of the French States-General.

Held at the end of a full four year term of the legislature, the 2020 election continued the trend of French politics since 2009, with no party able to secure an outright majority in the chamber. Widespread dissatisfaction with the "political elite" saw voters shift away from the "big two" traditional parties of French politics; the centre-left social democratic Socialist Party (Parti socialiste; PS) and the centre-right Gaullist conservative Union for the French Nation (Union pour la nation française; UNF), towards the smaller parties. Key issues were the growing debt burden faced by France, along with the high unemployment rate, and concerns about national security. A major part of the campaign was the Breton Statute of Autonomy, which had been agreed as a compromise to end the 2017-2018 Breton secession crisis, and narrowly passed by the State-General in November 2018, supported by the centre and the left, but strongly opposed by those on the political right.

The governing centre-left PS, led by incumbent Prime Minister Ségolène Royal, had been in coalition with the ecological party The Greens (Les Verts; LV), the left-wing Radical-Republican Party (Parti radical-républicain; PRR), the centrist Green-Liberal Party (Parti vert-libéral; PVL), and the broad-tent regionalist Union of the Overseas (Union des Outre-mers; UOM) since the 2016 election. The passage of the Breton Statute of Autonomy, over the objections of the PRR, led to their departure from the coalition in January 2019 while the left-regionalist Breton Democratic Union (Unvaniezh Demokratel Breizh; UDB) had agreed to support the government.

Both Royal and Jean-François Copé, former prime minister and the leader of the opposition UNF, were increasingly unpopular with both the general public and their party membership. In the first round, both parties saw historically low percentages, although strategic alliances with the smaller parties, and agreeing to drop some candidates in certain constituencies to form joint tickets, resulted in a rebound in the runoffs. Despite this, both parties saw their share of the vote and their seats decline, the PS lost 32 seats while the UNF lost 10. The big winners of the election were the centre-right Union of Independent Democrats (Union des démocrates indépendants; UDI), under Marielle de Sarnez, the right-wing nationalist Eurosceptic Patriots' Front (Front des patriotes; FP), led by Marine Le Pen, and the PVL, led by Cédric Villani. Sarnez and Le Pen made slight gains in the popular vote, but large seat gains due to a shift from the big two in their constituencies, while Villani saw an unprecedented surge in votes and seats, gaining 25 and catapulting the party to the fifth-largest in the chamber.

The UDB, led by Paul Molac, lost over a third of their seats. Some voters were dissatisfied over the shift to autonomy over independence, while others switched to other parties following the successful implementation of the Statute of Autonomy and the creation of a semi-independent Duchy of Brittany. The PRR gained a single seat, although their leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon failed to re-enter the chamber after losing his seat in 2016. LV saw a loss of 9 seats, although only a small drop in their share of the vote, while the right-agrarian Rural Agrarian Movement for Economic Renewal (Mouvement agraire rural de renouvellement économique; MARRE) lost two seats, and its leader Jean Saint-Josse lost the election in Béarn on the second round. The traditional right-wing Nationals and Royalists Party (Parti des nationaux et des royalistes; PNR) held its 8 seats, consolidating its support in the Vendée, and the French Communist Party (Parti communiste français; PCF) gained 2 seats.

The Union of the Overseas (Union des Outre-mers; UOM), a broad-tent regionalist movement that runs primarily in the Pacific overseas territories, picked up a surprise seat in Alexandretta where they won the popular vote, while the nationalist Guangzhouwan Independence Party (Parti pour l'Indépendance du Guangzhouwan / Guangzhouwan Duli Dang; PIG / GDD), despite an upsurge in pro-independence sentiment during the early stages of the campaign, held their 5 seats and a stable share of the vote.

With no party having an outright majority, the process of forming a majority coalition began after the second round results were confirmed on Sunday 3 May. The PVL refused to join another government, and the UDI announced they would abstain from any coalition led by Royal or Copé. On 5 May, Royal announced that the PS had formed a rainbow coalition with the PRR, the UDB, LV, the UOM and the GDD. Despite failing to form a government, and losing a second election, Copé announced he would stay on as leader of the UNF. On 6 May the new Chamber of Deputies convened and voted on the proposed government, and that afternoon Ségolène Royal was invited by King Jean IV to form a government and was sworn in as prime minister.

Following the election, 165 deputies (89 PS and 76 UNF) signed the "Tribune"; a pledge to support their parties for 2 years, but calling for a censorship motion against Royal or Copé after that time. The UDI and PVL agreed to abstain from any censorship vote for 2 years, but the FP declined to join the agreement. This brought some much needed stability to the French political landscape, but set the stage for the possible replacement of the leaders of the big two parties in 2022.

POD: Konrad Adenauer dies in Nazi custody during the Second World War. Without his commitment to unify the Catholic and Protestant political movements, the Christian Democratic Union is never founded. Catholics return to the Centre Party under Andreas Hermes, while Protestants join Gustav Heinemann's All-German People's Party, which is founded in 1946 ITTL. Without Adenauer's charisma and popularity, the Social Democrats under Kurt Schumacher become the dominant political force in the west.

Schumacher, Hermes, and Heinemann are all strong believers in unification. With the major western political forces unanimous in their support for the project, the Allies' plan of a unified, democratic, neutral Germany goes ahead. Schumacher and the SPD lead the drafting of the constitution, and the state takes the form of a federal semi-presidential republic. Schumacher is elected president while his party wins a decisive victory in the first election to the Volkstag, the federal legislature.

If anyone is wondering what the story is for the wiki box it's that Korolev survives the surgery that took his life in our universe. Historically Korolev's passing nixed the dominance of OKB-1 and made it so further work couldn't get done on the design of the N1. His baby just wasn't seen through to the end. But by the late 70s in our world more efficient engine and exhaust designs made it so that hypothetically the Soviets could have gotten the N1 working at that time. In this universe Korolev is still leading the program through the late 60s, Gagarin's death is butterflied, more funding comes in under Kosygin after 1968 (after which it got its "Naos" designation), pre-flight engine testing is introduced, and it all comes together to get enough R&D into the N1 program to make the new exhaust system happen before 1970.

After successful flight trials in March 1968, a crewed flight in September, and a successful circumlunar orbit with Titov and Gagarin in August, 1969, the program couldn't beat Apollo but it was following closely and was ready to go to the moon by 1970. The launch of the newly declassified, publicized, and christened Naos 1, bearing the USSR flag, upper stages painted bright white, lower stage bright green, was beautiful and televised around the world where the broadcast wasn't banned. The LK was guided down successfully by Leonov and Kubasov who worked together with dizzying synergy.

Though shorter in duration than Apollo 11, Radost 3 was a huge success. The cosmonauts were able to collect a slightly greater volume of samples and learned significantly from the experiences of the Americans in the planning and execution of the mission. It was also a first in that the landing took place on the far side of the moon, near a small mountain range in one of its rare mare features. The Naos 1 would be embraced by the Soviet Union as a standard interplanetary launch vehicle to compete with the Saturn V.

The wikibox of my the country I played on the previous season of r/worldpowers, a geopolitical sim/roleplaying game - the Socialist African People's Jumuiya, more commonly known as The Jumuiya.

The emergence of the Jumuiya onto the world stage was a shocker, as while many expected the gradually coalescing East African Confederation to become a notable player in African affairs, the ascendance of Mapinduzi Ya Watu party and the emergence of the Ujamaa Societies across the country would radically shift how the Federation developed. The Ujamaa Societies began as citizen's organizations and mutual aid societies generally committed to East African Unity, but they would soon evolve into a pseudo religious organization acting as essentially a parallel state. The Ujamaa's main partner in government is the Mapinduzi Ya Watu party, more commonly known as MYW, originally a left-leaning Socialist Party that eventually transformed into a dogmatic ruling bloc that would consolidate power and reshape the nascent Federation.

For the Ujamaa societies were more than just especially enthusiastic political organizations; as noted, they became downright cultish, organized a key set of tenets and revering to Julius Nyerere, former socialist leader of Tanzania. To quote an Ujamaa society manifesto from the early years, the core tenets of the emergent political philosophy of Ujamaa and Swahili Socialist Nationalism include

- lit. 'Brotherhood, Socialism.' The people. The thought, actions and dreams of all East Africans. In pursuit of the Jumuiya as developed by Nyerere, supported through Harambee.
Jumuiya - lit. 'The Community'. East Africa. The goal, mission, the end product, the guiding light of Ujamaa, the dream of Nyerere, and of all Swahili National Socialism, as pursued via Harambee.
Harambee - lit. 'All Pull Together.' The development of a self-reliant and strong Jumuiya, via giving and community strength. Reinforced with Ujamaa and espoused by Nyerere.
Nyerere - Julius Nyerere, the founding father of all Africa. The dreamer of the Jumuiya, the creator of Ujamaa, the lover and doer of Harambee.
The parent of all Swahili, of all East Africans, of all dark-skinned people.

As soon as the MYW bloc won a majority in the East African Legislative Assembly, it set about fundamentally restructuring the country and implementing Swahili Socialist Nationalism, and indeed while the party is formally a pan-African one, it glorified and extolled the shared culture and language of the Swahili states, eventually including South Sudan and much of Eastern Congo. Diplomatic relations are strong with the Union State, Japan and the Central African Federation, and Somaliland has emerged as something close to a puppet state of the Jumuiya. Conversely, relations are extremely poor with much of Europe, China and Somalia. The Jumuiya is best compared to North Korea in many respects - the country recently acquired nuclear arms, for one, and the curious Ujamaa pseudoreligion has morphed into something resembling a state cult, with Julius Nyerere formally and legally enshrined as the Eternal Chairman of the Jumuiya. Usually considered an emergent superpower, the country has to grapple with a great deal of economic inequality and underinvestment (especially in South Sudan and Eastern Congo) before it can truly compete with other major powers.

So this is a continuation of these posts and deals with the last monarch of the French Civil war his royal Majesty King Henri V King of France.
King Henri V was born a few short years after the fall of Napoleon and defeat of the Revolution and everything seemed to go downhill his family was overthrown the republic and then the Empire was restored and all seemed lost. Then France was broken in the Franco-Prussian war and the French Civil war began, The Paris Commune swept the North The Third Republic secured the Atlantic coast and the Empire was pushed back to the south of the nation. As the nation collapsed into civil war the people of Brittany and Vendée resisted all calls of betrayal and declared for their true King. Henri V was crowned in Brest as King of France and declared the war of national rebirth.

Yet despite his flowery speeches and orders to march to Paris the Kingdom of France remained a small fighter in the war to reunite France. He died in 1863 and his heir Charles XI brought about the Spanish branch of the House of Bourbon to rule over the people of France.
