Polish Colonial series pt.2
<< part 1 - part 3 >>

Cameroon was a French Colony since the Great War, after which it was taken away from Germany, becoming officialy a League of Nations Mandate of France. However when racial tensions started brewing, French government started looking for a way to get rid of the problem. Polish Maritime and Colonial League, bolstered by their venture as protectors of Liberia, seemed like a great candidate for new overlords. As such, on 7 July 1953 Polish and French governemts signed agreement transferring Cameroon to Poland. Colony officially became known as Protectorate of Cameroon (pol.: Protektorat Kamerunu). Despite the name, new "protectors" quickly disillusioned their colonial subjects about status of native populace. Country was ruled by white minority made up of Poles and some former French officials, enjoying great relations with similiar countries like South Africa, Rhodesia or Portugese colonies and even Liberia, who kept warm relationship with Poland after peaceful transfer of power. Poles exploited national resources of Kamerun and imported to Europe exotic African products.

Result of such treatment was rise of African nationalist movements, demanding independence and removal of Poles from the country. Despite Polish elite trying to get rid of guerillas by arresting their leaders, campaign known as Cameroon Independence War or as Cameroon War in Poland (pol.: Wojna o Kamerun) continued. Due to continuing resistance, and slow downfall of other white regimes, after 23 years from establishment of the Protectorate, in 1976 Poles started negotiations with African independence movements ultimately resulting in Independence of Cameroon on 1st October.

The 2077 Dodge Hellcat Police Interceptor is the most common police interceptor in use across North America, in with numerous police agencies across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with more limited numbers in use with other law enforcement organizations worldwide as both a marked and unmarked patrol car.

During WWIII, Chrysler and other American auto manufacturers retooled their factories for the war effort. The 2077 Hellcat was one of the first production cars to come onto the market after the 2076 June Ceasefire. The civilian Hellcat, while similarly aesthetically to its LEO counterpart, is like most other modern vehicles powered by an electric engine.

However, from its conception the Hellcat was intended to come in a police package, meeting the high demand among various agencies for a more capable pursuit vehicle in the troubled post-War era. The police package of the Hellcat is powered by gasoline, making it one of a limited number of vehicles in production designed as such. Additionally, the police package features an integrated armor kit, upgraded heavy-duty brakes, an upgraded electronic stability program, police-tuned steering, a sophisticated comms suite, an upgraded counter-hacking suite, and an electronic warfare suite. Its dashboard and center console are designed to integrate computers and controls for lights and sirens. The police Hellcat is also notable faster and more powerful than its civilian counterpart, and most other civilian vehicles on the market.

The California Highway Patrol is the largest individual customer besides the US federal government, having a fleet numbering 1,148. An initial order of 750 was placed and delivered in 2077, with a follow-up order delivered in 2079, and several more planned to replace the rest of CHP’s interceptor fleet.

Neato!

(although, looking at the old one, WHY DOES LEX HAVE HAIR?)
Wasn't Lex Luthor an archetypal mad scientist back when he had hair?

EDIT: Wait, that was when he was confused with Ultra-Humanite. I do remember that he had started out as a war-profiteering diabolical genius, though.

Because Tom Hanks with his Walt Disney looks portraying Lex Luthor as the billionaire with a god complex and a desire to be the true savior of Metropolis(and not that damned Alien) is PERFECT casting.

Ultra-Humanite did come first and did kind of set the mold for bald mad scientists. Lex did have hair (bright ginger) when he first appeared in but became his famously bald self for his second appearance onwards. People think that it happened cause the artist mixed up Lex and the Ultra-Humanite and drew the wrong one, giving us our favourite evil baldy.

And lets be honest, the Walt Disney/Howard Hughes/Mr House rich evil dick is such a wonderful look

Would anyone really notice if the two switched?

No real backstory, I just saw an image of pluto over Australia on Reddit and had the idea. Yes, I know Dionysus has nothing to do with the moon but he's the greek god with no planet that came to my mind.

The brain went to this place

The 2020 election was marked by extremely low turnout of 34.2%, almost half that of the previous election. The was attributed to the influence of the ongoing pandemic; suspected carriers were advised to self-isolate, while others were warned against attending large events and gatherings. Fear of potential contact with carriers at polling locations spread on social media prior to the election, and numerous voters stated they would rather stay home than risk contracting the illness. A record number of early voters and postal voting applications were registered in the days before the election, though most were rejected. On election day, many polling booths were understaffed as workers stayed home, causing extended queue times and prompting many who did turn out to return home without voting.

The election result itself did not dramatically differ from the previous election, but the unexpected entry of the anti-vaccination Ethics Party was received with shock in the media and from the general public. The party had previously never achieved representation beyond a handful of local councils. In prior months and weeks, as the pandemic unfolded, Ethics Party members and leaders expressed belief in a conspiracy theory that the pandemic is a convention strain of a mild illness spread deliberately by world governments in order to coerce the populace into receiving vaccinations. A social media campaign was undertaken to convince "pandemic sceptics" to vote for the Ethics Party. Analysts suggest that these voters were disproportionately represented in the results since they did not stay home out of fear of the pandemic, and that the Ethics Party's base has not significantly expanded since the previous election.

As the incumbent Labour-Green government lost its majority, negotiations were required to form a new government. Given the circumstances of the pandemic, and the fractured nature of the Assembly due to the presence of the Ethics Party, Free Alliance agreed to a unity government with Labour. This was negotiated via a series of conference calls to limit direct contact. The government has not currently been invested by the Assembly, as its first, second, and third sessions have been successively delayed to prevent possible spread of the pandemic to members.

Due to vague and unspecified reasons (perhaps an absence of the Walter Jenkins incident plays a role, along with other things), the early polls in 1964 showing Johnson with a huge lead end up being pretty much accurate. Johnson ends up getting (for simplicity's sake) a 20% swing compared to OTL. It ends up being the biggest landslide since 1820, though Goldwater still does over twice as well as Landon did in 1936 in the electoral college
wiki presidential.jpg

In Congress, the shift is a bit less dramatic, but the Democrats still have a 15% swing from OTL, getting a dominating victory, with large supermajorities in both chambers...

At the state level, in the gubernatorial races (also note that in 1964, many more states had governor's elections in Presidential years compared to those that do it now), the Democrats have a rather more modest shift in their favor, of just 7.5% compared to OTL, though this still allows them to make some gains (compared to OTL where they had a net loss of one governorship)

Goldwater suffers a crushing defeat, and the Republican Party is reduced severely in Congress, holding a bit less than 25% of the senate and a hair under 15% of the House. Johnson is poised to push forward with an even more liberal and comprehensive version of the Great Society compared to OTL - though given the still relevant congressional moderates and southern Democrats, who knows for sure just how much more he'd actually be able to get done? And the Republicans are still sure to make some decent gains in the 1966 elections due to Civil Rights and Great Society backlash, maybe even more than OTL depending on how much backlash there is, though also possibly less depending on how able they are to overcome factional strife and come back to the mainstream, as well as to overcome the greater level of Democratic incumbents. And of course the Vietnam War is still ongoing, with the strife and divisions it would bring to the Democrats still being on the near horizon too

Polish Colonial series pt. 3: Second European War
<< part 2 - part 4 >>
1584103889999.png

Second European War (abbreviated 2EW, SEW or IIEW) also known as Allied-German War was a military conflict fought in Europe, that lasted from 1939 to 1942. Starting with Invasion of Poland by Germany without declaration of war, it turned quickly into major conflict as Britain and France declared war on Germany in response on 30 August 1939. Rapid advances of German armoured troops, aiming to take Polish army by suprise, were quickly halted by Polish tank fleet composed of mainly TKS tankettes, 7TP and 10TP tanks and some hurriedly bought Char B1. Additionally German tankers bolstered by initial successes, spearheaded deep into Polish territory. As they went far beyond reach of supply lines, Polish cavalry harrased with nightly raids (also called "zagon") on units' camps, striking fear and panic in Wehrmacht soldiers.

With coming winter, halt of German offensive, first batches of supplies arriving through Romanian ports (and covertly from Hungary, which refused to allow transit of German troops to Poland as "matter of national honor") frontline stabilised ahead of Warsaw and along rivers of Vistula and Narew. Remaining pockets of resistance of Polish Army, like in Hel were being slowly defeated and stalemate dragged until Franco-British offensive in March 1940. German forces rapidly retreating from Polish Front could not seriously resist advancing Allied troops. As both German and Allied forces reached river Rhine frontlines again stabilised, at cost of allowing Poles take the initiative. As such it became apparent that in the West turned out to be a repeat of the Great War, with none of the sides being able to decisively strike at another. Continous offensives and counter-offensives were costly causing loss of many lives and vehicles. However with Polish forces slowly retaking their homelands and dangerously advancing towards Germany proper and German economy crumbling under demands of the Army, Germany was not able to defeat Allied forces and was ultimately conquered, surrendering on 6 October 1942.

Following the surrender, Nazi government was deposed and country occupied by Allied militaries. France annexed Saarland and established protectorate over Rhineland. Poland annexed Eastern Prussia, Free City of Danzig and Silesia was split between them and Czechs - as an appeasement for Slovakia becoming Polish protectorate and Hungary keeping its' gains. As Prussian militarism was blamed for two conflicts, Germany was demilitarised and Prussia abolished. Furthermore War caused ethnic tensions between Germans living in other countries leading to their expulsion from conquered territories. War has changed Europe geopolitically as it lead to rise of Polish and Italian bloc of anti-communist countries, oftenly dictatorships, in Eastern Europe, supported by France and Britain and aimed against the Soviet Union.

Ive always been facinated by the idea of a 50-state-landslide for LBJ in 1964, but I dont dont know how that would come about. Maybe a last minute well organized dixiecrat campaign splits the vote in th deep south?
