How did Minnesota get No.1 in the AP poll but not even make a 16 team playoff?
Barred from postseason play due to some scandals of the improper compensation type. Many would argue that the AP pollsters caved to pressure from an ever growing crowd of supporters of paying student athletes, though of course all the pollsters deny this.

SixtySix: Why Did Ruggerio Win?
In a resounding defeat for Briar Vergil and the Progressive Party, "Buddy" Ruggerio has won the race for 900 Adams Street. How did this happen? Let's take a look back. The race for 1982 really began with 1980's leadership elections. The Constitution Party (led at the time by Prime Minister Allen B. Temple) had faced a resounding defeat to Briar Vergil, who campaigned on integrity and honest in government. The little-known MP was called "Briar who?" by many Conservatives. A famous ad done by the Conservative Party featured an unidentified man laughing at a television with the words "Briar Vergil: Prime Minister" on it. This didn't work, as the Progressives gained their largest majority since the early 60s. Vergil managed to get his "New Thinking" plans passed with the large Progressive majority, and the high public approval of these plans led to his re-election in 1980. The 1980 leadership contest was won by Maine MP Budy Ruggerio, a former automotive dealership owner. Ruggerio was by far the most conservative leader of the party, with the Conservatives forming an alliance. Alan MacCarter, Minister of Education and many liberal Constitutionalists walked out of the leadership election forming the National Party in opposition to the conservative trend in the CSP. The National Party wasn't the only new party. Our Nation was formed by Andile Alfolaye, a rising star in the Progressives (many Future History TLs were written with him as PM) formed a new left wing third party based on "8 Pillars of Justice". The base of the party comes primarily from urban areas, minorities, and former Socialist voters. Speaking of the Socialists, the final Socialist MP, Jochen Dreschner was defeated by an Our Nation opponent. While the Socialist were powerful in the 1930s and 1940s, their power quickly decreased. Finally, the Green Mountain Party kept their stronghold of Vermont, the only state they run in. Despite this, a Vermont Independence referendum is not likely to come anytime soon. So what did the Progressives do wrong? First, the fundamentals were against the incumbent. The economy really started to tank following the 1980 elections, and the collapse of Neptune and Montpelier put many New Englanders in the auto industry out of work. Second, Ruggerio was able to paint himself as an outsider, and flip the public's perception of Vergil from an honest leader to an extremist. Finally, National and Our Nation's message of change brought the public to further distrust of the administration. With the Constitutionalists elected by a plurality, many have speculated that a majority government law may be passed in the future. Others have speculated about a potential merger of the Constitution and Conservative parties. No matter what happens, this will be an interesting two years.

Figured as much.

I don't know how I feel about this.

With Pakistan conquering all of Jammu and Kashmir in 1978, much resent sprung up in the Hindu parts of the province. With its reputation as an Islamic state as well as (imagined or not) crimes by the Pakistani Army invading the nation, many Hindus feared a genocide, while others were nationalistically inclined towards India. As a result, a series of organizations sprung up to protest and combat Pakistani control. However, these protests did nothing to influence Pakistan as they were seen as treasonous. The result was that those groups radicalized, attacking the Pakistani Army. Hindu terrorism became a common occurrence in the Pakistani province of Azad Jammu and Kashmir[1]. Every measure to stop this terrorism by the Pakistani government failed and at times backfired. The insurgency continued to grow in intensity, to the point that, today, the southern portion of the province is so terrorist-ridden that people there are scared to even go outside. This insurgency shows no signs of receding. Unless, of course, Pakistan gives the southern part of the province to India, which will certainly never happen.

[1] "Azad" means "free" in Urdu, which shows how Pakistan thinks of itself in regards to Jammu and Kashmir.

The descendant of 19th century Korean immigrants to the Russian Empire, Jang Yu-ri was given as a gift by Moscow to their allies in Seoul, and has succeeded in singlehandedly raising the profile of the sport of chess in Korea, giving glory to the socialist nation with her strong performances. Jang became a Grandmaster at the tender age of 10, the second-youngest female player to ever do so. Now, a blossoming young woman at the age of 16, she has continued to improve towards her stated goal of becoming the first Korean World Champion.

Jang, despite her broken Korean and struggles to adapt to the culture of her adopted country, has a fanatical following throughout the peninsula. She has claimed to receive at least one marriage proposal a week in the mail from her biggest male fans. "I never knew so many boys in the Fatherland liked chess!" a 13 year old Jang famously claimed during a Russian language interview with Rook magazine in Moscow. But, while Jang says she loves her fans very much, she insists that there is only room for one boy in her heart --- "Our Supreme Leader Kim Tae-un." Like every Korean, Jang wears a pin of the Supreme Leader and his great-great-grandfather Kim Il-sung everywhere she goes. But her dedication to the head of state runs deeper. "Sometimes, the stress of competition gets to me, and I have problems sleeping at night. But then I stare at the portrait of Our Supreme Leader on the ceiling above my bed for a few hours, and remind myself that he is watching over me, and I feel better."

But her singleminded dedication to the Chairman came into question during the summer of 2116 when a photo surfaced in a Russian tabloid allegedly showing Jang holding hands with Finnish chess prodigy Mikko Hämäläinen. Despite the best attempts by the Korean government to censor the image, deemed lewd and inappropriate by the conservative moral standards of the country, illegal copies were eventually leaked onto Korean state internet, sparking violent protests outside of the Finnish embassy and calls for Jang to be deported back to Russia. But the chess star appeared unphased during her press conference with the Korean Central News Agency, laughing and claiming that she had believed the effeminate European to be a girl. While most of the public didn't buy it, the intensity of the demonstrations died down in the following weeks, and the Korean government soon distracted the populace with the unveiling of a new 300 meter tall golden statue of Kim Il-sung on Daemado.

I'm not wholly sure what this is exactly, but I like it

HOW ABOUT SOME OLD JAPANESE MEN TO MAKE THINGS LESS AWKWARD FOR YOU, GLORY TO THE EMPEROR

天皇陛下万歳! 天皇陛下万歳! 天皇陛下万歳!

>"Party for Japanese Kokoro"
>PM named after Yandere Simulator protagonist (could be a coincidence)

Also, I'd suggest rendering Japanese names in Kanji if possible.

But it's always nice to see East Asia-related boxes. :)

Actually, I added that one if only because of a layer of irony: a heartless, sociopathic monster being the candidate for the party that cares for Japan's heart. :p

Based on a post in a Russian alternate history site. However, I changed only one little thing. The roughly translated text (with the change outlined in bold) is, as follows:

The liberal Edward Cullen hasn't even won the presidential race yet and certain states have already felt the wind of change. On the decisive day of the presidential race, Maine and Maryland have legalized human hunting for vampires older than 180 years, and Colorado has legalized marriage with zombies.

America is on the way for further democratization, many journalists write. As the Los Angeles Times writes, on 16th of January officials from Maine and Maryland have put an end to the age-old question of legalizing zombie marriage on the territory of their states. The issue was put to vote 32 times, but the authorities endlessly gave a negative verdict in regards to the rights of magical minorities to marry humans.

The leader of neoconservatives,
Eric Blade, and the chairman of the CPUSA, the "Headless Horseman", have spoken against the legalization of zombie-and-human marriage...

Since Eric Brooks (well, I believe it was intended to be Eric Brooks) is British, I decided to choose his more... American ally.

If there are any errors in the text, please point them out. Constructively! :)

Nicolaas Langeler is an Orange River lawyer and the 25th State President of the Orange Free State, one of the few Orange Free State presidents with African (specifically, Griqua) ancestry.

Nicolaas was born in Brandfort to a family of Griqua farmers and married Vera Naleli, a Basotho singer, at the age of 24 in 2002. He arose as a political figure in 2006, when he replaced Orange River human rights activist Karst-Jaf Neihof as the leader of the liberal United Orange Party. During the 2010 presidential elections, Nicolaas Langeler managed to win 54% of the vote, and stepped into office in 11 April 2010. A dedicated statesman and agricultural reformer, Nicolaas also gained a reputation for being a kind, soft-spoken diplomat, his term resulting into a thaw in Orange River-Zulu relations and expansion of the German-Orange River alliance. He would be succeeded by United Orange Party candidate Valentijn Stol, a military man of Russian descent.
