I doubt you could really call an Outside Intelligence a god, given their usual indifference towards the continued existence of humanity. Certainly they are powerful, but god implies some sort of benevolent nature, which from a human perspective, the average OI obviously lacks. So the "or something" seems to fit it better.

Has an Outside Intelligence ever been summoned?

Fascinating world, by the way.

EDIT: What is 'goetry'?

EDIT: What is 'goetry'?

It's an archaic term for Non-theurgistic magic, which has been adopted as legal language with a definition of roughly 'malicious or unlawful use of magic with intent to harm' in most of the world ITTL.

And people have summoned outside intelligences before, but that's not something that lasts very long.

One-shot

1988 Arizona Gubernatorial Recall election

The 1988 gubernatorial recall election was the first ever in Arizona, and the first since Lynn Fraizer was successfully defeated in 1921, and the second statewide one total. While Mecham wasn't the first Arizona Governor targeted with a recall, his fellow Republican Jack Williams also was targeted over racial issues as well as several Governors before them both, Mecham was the first to be dragged to the polls to actually confront his critics. Nationwide Republicans were begging him to shut up from day one. His toxicity with everyone but his followers left him deaf to the concerns and opinions of others. In fact, his own Arizona legislature, both carrying a Republican majority, had impeached him several months ago in February, leaving Secretary of State Mofford to act as Governor in his stead.

The only hope for main stream Republicans was former House Minority Leader, John J. Rhodes. One of the congressional Republicans to openly tell Nixon to resign, him doing so the day afterward, and a nationally respected leader for his charm, his bipartisanship, and his general affability. Mofford was the Secretary of State, and acting Governor while Mecham was being impeached, she was a popular candidate, three times elected as Secretary after her appointment by Governor Babbitt.

Were it a contest between just Mofford and him, first both would likely run the cleanest campaign in Arizona history, and it would likely he would have won by a fair margin, carrying most Republican (likely losing a few hardcore Mecham supporters) and scores of Independents and Democrats. Some people even accused of the Legislature of waiting to remove Mecham just so a Republican would serve out the remaining 2 and a half years of Mecham's term instead of the Democratic Mofford. Again, were it just Mofford and Rhodes, Rhodes would have likely won.

However, it was not just those two. In fact, seven different people qualified for the recall ballot, including Democrat Carolyn Warner, who narrowly lost to Mecham in the 1986 election, failed 1986 Republican primary candidate Jack Londen, who quietly backed Rhodes near the end of the campaign, and of all people, Vincent Furnier. Better known as Alice Cooper to most Americans. Cooper apparently did it on a whim, running on the "Wild Party", but only achieving about 2% of the vote despite literally no campaigning.

Despite hopes from many Republicans, Mecham did not concede the election to Rhodes and instead ran himself, ironically becoming a spoiler candidate. Rhodes was crestfallen, never having achieved his dream of the Speaker of the House, he was dragged into the election as something of a statesman candidate and lost only because of Mecham. Aides later reported him cursing up a storm at the soon to be jailed ex-Governor. Mecham ran with his host of far-right Republicans, many who saw the recall as a conspiracy by the gays (one of the main recallers was Ed Buck, a registered Republican and gay businessman living in the Phoenix area), the media, and the "interests". Mecham would run again for Governor in 1990, losing the primary by a margin of 6 to 1. Mofford would serve out the rest of her term, being succeeded by fellow Democrat Terry Goddard. Rhodes would live out his days in general contentment, becoming something of an unofficial aide to Mofford, who jokingly dubbed him the "deputy Governor."

I'm morbidly curious in reading his account on 1987, simply dubbed Wrongful Impeachment. I imagine it would be interesting if nothing else.

Shocking political corruption and conspiracy are revealed as former Arizona Governor Evan Mecham presents detailed, compelling evidence that his impeachment was orchestrated by a group of behind-the-scenes power brokers determined to regain control of Arizona government after Mecham made good on his pledge to take political control away from special interests.

Yes. Yes it would.

There's a timeline behind this in the works. Just a few hints as to the actual situation so far, but I'd be interested to see what people suspect is behind its differences.

My guess would be a stereotypical The Nazis Invade So The Righteous Britons Emigrate To The Colonies Leaving That Bastard Windsor To Rule Over The Islands With The Support Of Lord Halifax TL. But I think (and hope) there's more to it than that, especially given how Canada still has a Governor General.
