The 16th Lord High Hermeticist of Scotland, James MacDonald, is in Scotland, the Queen’s agent for dealing with any magical affairs or incidents, and as such is the head of the Scottish Magical establishment. The position is extremely archaic, and like most of the Scottish Magical establishment, has survived almost unchanged since 1707, remaining completely separate from and somewhat adversarial towards it’s English counterpart. Indeed, it’s largest single organizational change since the Act of Union was that as of the declaration of the 16th Lord High Hermeticist, the magical establishment now reports to the Scottish Government in Holyrood, instead of solely reporting to the Crown and the Lord Advocate.
The 16th Lord High Hermeticist is like most previous holders of the post, is a man of considerable arcane knowledge and abilities, as well as being a consummate civil servant, and the wielder of the last known surviving flaming sword, Dyrnwyn. MacDonald has so far managed to avoid being involved in any serious scandal, although there was a minor incident when it was revealed that the Office of the Lord High Hermeticist was involved with the Baroness Kelly in a research project which used public funds to attempt to create a new magic sword, (the first such attempt in Britain since the end of the Napoleonic wars,) but this was found to be entirely within the capacities of his office. Either way, impressive alchemical feat as it was purely in structure, the Kelly Blade was a dud.
