Alternate Weapons of War thread...

From the developers (Who are actually Gung-Ho's on Indonesian Marijuana), of Pimpsmoker, relases there latest new weapon : THE n00b BLASTER 90000 BITCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Omigod ! I'm trembling with sheer horror... :D

Something from Fight and Be Right, and a Canadian boy's magazine c.1940- massive thanks to Sapiento who once again has designed a cracker of a plane!

Beatiful illustration. It deserves some sort of AH.com prize, IMHO...

(OOC: I was influenced strongly by the GP03 Dendrobium Orchis from Gundam 0083 for this one.)

During the course of the Zaaroft War, the Central Galactic Navy made the changeover to Spacemech Fighters, relegating the older Aerospace craft to mostly atmospheric air dominance and ship defence duties. The Spacemech Fighters were designed in the mould of the ground-based Field Walkers- with manipulator hands that could use various disposable weapons.
The Seraphim Command Spacemech is the culmination of this development, in the attempt to make increasingly more powerful, faster, and more manoeuvrable mechanized fighters. Eschewing leg systems that would have normally doubled as thrusters and landing gear, the Seraphim uses a large thruster system to provide it with incredible forward speed, and multiple smaller thrusters to give it surprising mobility for its size. Its primary weapon is the positron blaster, a scaled-down version of starship guns, with its own separate supply of positrons; even so, its beam has an output in the kiloton range, depending on the setting.
The Seraphim's other main weapon system is the large missile batteries on its back; two single-shot launchers contain Blue Whale class munition dispersal missile, which contain subcompartments for eight nuclear MIRV warheads, and 176 smaller missiles. Two launch boxes contain a total of 160 missile tubes in four banks.
A single telescopic manipulator on the left arm gives it extensive capacity in controlling environmental debris and objects, and using standard mech weaponry. Four autocannons in the head provide point-defence.
Unfortunately, its size limits its use to certain spacecraft with large enough hangar bays, such as Escort Carriers and Supercarrier. Thus making the Seraphim a rare, but tactically important, combat unit assigned only to Naval Aviation Wings.

Something else from the Fight and Be Right universe, this time HMSAS Cape Town. Originally laid down as HMS Swiftsure, the lead ship of her class, Cape Town is perhaps the purest distillation of the theories behind the Juggernaut, the ship that has dominated the seaways of the early twentieth century.

Fast, aggressive and fragile, the Juggernaut is designed to be equally at home sowing havoc amongst enemy convoys and hunting enemy commerce raiders. While it would be horribly vulnerable if forced into battle on even terms, it can successfully chase and outgun any individual enemy cruiser, and can panic and disrupt a convoy to the point where individual ships are vulnerable to waiting submarines.

Juggernauts normally hunt in packs, and although their losses at the hands of naval aircraft during the Great War showed that their heyday is over, they are still prized assets. As such, South Africa's 'acquisition' of HMS Swfitsure in 1938 thanks to some quick-thinking, mutinous junior former Royal Naval Officers was a major coup for the Blue movement in the African theatre, and contributed greatly to the liberation of Mombasa and Zanzibar.

The Percival-class Light Cruiser, while less in number than some of the Heavier cruiser classes, fills a role necessary for the Central Galactic Navy. In-between the size and capabilities of a Heavy Cruiser and a Destroyer, the Percival bolsters the combat capacity of Carrier Groups, with their dedicated middle-range beam weapons and missile banks.

Class: CGN Percival Assault Cruiser
Rollout: December 17, 6289
Manufacturer: Blohm and Voss Shipyards
Length: 1265 meters
Width: 405 meters
Height: 300 meters
Number maintained: 12,000,000
Engine units: 4 x Main ion drives; numerous auxiliary and manoeuvring thrusters
Powerplant: 1 x RR-185 Aneutronic Fusion Reactor
Slipstream velocity: 100 l.y/s
Sublight speed: 2200G
Crew: 445 enlisted; 255 officers; total 700 crewmen
Troop Capacity: 1 Full Army Battalion (500 men)
Standing Troops: 1 Marine Company (100 men), 1 Waffen-SG Company (100 men)
Starfighter complement: 6 SF-178D Tigershark Aerospace Multirole Fighters; 6 SF-122A Blueshark Aerospace Defence Fighters; 6 SF-101A Mako Aerospace Interceptor Fighters; 6 F/A-156E Bullshark Aerospace Strike Fighters; 5 SM-05 Archangel Combat Spacemechs
Armour: 2.5 meters of Titacrete Military-Grade Battleplate

I need to get my scanner up and working, I was going through a box and I found a binder of a bunch of designs I've done over the last few years,
they're not exactly great artistically, but they definitely do qualify as 'Alternative'.

An example being replacing propellers with water jets and mounting engines in different places..

As a side note, could something the size of a small passenger jetliner be lifted up using giant helo blades?

Awesome. Simply awesome.

Another firearm from my Carpaverse - this time, a "needler" (read : fletchette gun). This is a more pistol-like version. It looks bulky and robust, but it's actually very light and easy to handle by both hands. It's equiped with a small laser designator built into the handguard, a detachable scope and a semi-auto and full auto fire selector. The stock is part of a full version kit, and is not a standard accessory for the weapon. The needler essentially works as a sort of dart-shooting airgun version of an SMG. The small cylinder-like thing between the barrel and laser designator is a small air-intake for the weapon's gas-powered firing system. So, what's this baby's maximum rate of fire, you ask ? 100 fletchettes a minute... But beware - the magazine can only carry 200 rounds, so you should use full auto only in more desperate situations... ;)

Nice design. Just one question: Why 5 main guns? I'd think it'd likely be easier from all perspectives to go for six in two triple turrets rather than one twin and one triple.

The air cylinder is completely pointless if you have caseless ammo. which is the prefered method of flechettes anyway. using fins for stabilization.. have you ever seen a real flechette gun?

Also, 100 rounds a minute is actually rather slow. Assault rifles range from 600-rpm and go upwards. Machine pistols and submachineguns, even faster, with their smaller bolts. Did you mean to say 100 rounds a second?

I have, I have, but... Rule of Cool says otherwise... :D

"Needlers" are meant to be used as regular pistols and rifles most of the time. Turning them on full auto is often a last resort, used when you haven't got anything better (a normal rapid-fire gun, etc.) at hand... And needlers lack bottomless magazines, so... yeah... ;)

My first ship for the Kriegsmarine.
It was just supposed to be a "concept" but I just kept on going and after a while it was done. Did it all today, and no, I have not used any ships as inspiration although it does look (at least I think so) like the Admiral Graf Spee (except that Graf Spee only had one chimney). :p

I hope you like her.

The Gawain-class Destroyer, only 65 meters shorter than a light cruiser, is capable of bringing deadly firepower to the fore of combat, and at surprising speed. Built to replace older destroyers, the Gawain is equipped with a much more powerful reactor and ion engines, giving it the advantage in terms of mobility and speed. Its sleek shape leaves little to get snagged or struck by debris, enhancing its survivability.
This comes at a price, however; more power slaved to the thruster systems means less energy contributed to maintaining the energy shield. Even so, it is a nimble spacecraft, compared to other large capital ships, and constitutes the bulk of the navy's carrier-escort forces.
