Alternate VP's for the Eisenhower Administration?

So it's pretty common knowledge that Eisenhower and Nixon had a very strained relationship... as in they both hated each other. And Nixon took the VP spot because he wanted to President, while Eisenhower dreaded a Nixon presidency and did everything he could to drop Nixon from the ticket in 56' going as far as promising him any cabinet position "outside of Defense and State".
So, say in 56' Eisenhower is successful in dropping Nixon off the ticket, who does he choose as his Vice President? Does he still need to solidify the Conservative voters, or is his re-election so secure he could pick a ham sandwich?

Any chance that Eisenhower just doesn't endorse Nixon in 60'? Like maybe throwing his support behind Rockefeller?

No. Eisenhower knew that Nixon had been loyal to him and thus he supported him in 1960. Also Dwight did not see things in the same light as Rockefeller.

They didn't? I mean they were both from the moderate wing of the party.

Perhaps during the Checkers speech, a light bulb explodes or something else that causes Nixon to unleash a hailstorm of curses...live on tv.

This would be enough to damper the enthusiasm for Nixon, and maybe to go a step further, Ike could have a mild heart attack when he finds out.

Or, while this may be least likely, someone could threaten to leak information about Kay Summersby to force Ike's hand and kick Nixon..

I think the last one may have happened in the novel "Eleanor vs. Ike" (great book by the way)
