Alternate Urban Legends and Conspiracy Theories

That would depend on the alternate timeline.

If Ted Kennedy died in the Chappaquiddik (I doubt I spelled that right) incident, then there would be several dozen conspiracy theories that would automatically pop up, because that's what always happens whenever a Kennedy dies.

Another Kennedy one: if RFK were elected president, and then assassinated, there would be a lot more conspiracy theories about his death than there already are.

If nuclear deterrance failed and a full-scale nuclear war between the US and USSR somehow erupted, there would always be some conspiracy theory (circulated among anyone who's left alive) about how the evil governments teamed up to kill people for their own personal gain. Exactly what they think that personal gain was would vary from person to person. Some could say political purposes, especially if there were a Republican president and all of the main nuclear targets were in Democratic states, or vice versa. Others could cite economic reasons: "They blew up all of the poor people so they wouldn't keep having to send out welfare checks!" There are billions of conspiracy theories that could come from an event like this.

We could always have more UFO theories in any timeline. Every time something unusual crashes into the Earth, people start screaming about a government cover-up. Although if you let these incidents reach a critical mass, you could see them gain some validity in the public consciousness.

A mroe contemporary theory:

If Al-qaeda had brought down the WTC in 1993 unlike OTL, there would be an earlier quasi 9/11 truth movement.

I have sometimes mused that UFO-conspiracies would be pretty huge in timelines with a US-Nazi Cold War, if the German lead in aeronautics and rocketry is really pronounced in comparison with the OTL situation between the US and the USSR. The US government and the Air Force would in fact very likely like to contribute to these theories by emphasising the possible connection with UFOs and the Luftwaffe to secure more funding and popular support...

Jack Womack's brilliant Elvissey has something like this happening in an alternate 1954 US, though IIRC in it the UFOs actually are German.

If the American Revolution was somehow delayed until the 1950-70 then we could see something along the lines of "Gangs in New York have been putting LSD-laced needles into telephone coin-return slots. They claim to be the Anti-British independence faction 'Sons of Liberty' and have over 30,000 members continent-wide.".

Funny. The ATL is super-ASB, but if it somehow did happen I could definitely see a conspiracy theory like that.

Really depends on a lot of factors.

off the top of my head:

Moon Conspiricy: the Soviet Union did NOT land on the moon!

Operation Otarie: Facist France's hair-brained sceme to invade England.

Roswell, ROT: an Alien Craft landed in Roswell, New Houston, Republic of Texas.

any failed assasination attempts in OTL are successful: we may never know why Ford, Reagan, Clinton and Dubya Bush were assassinated.

as for Urban legends, not much can change.
