PoD is that then-Senator Orrin Hatch, not Robert Bork, is nominated to fill Lewis Powell's seat (the pay raise that prevented it in OTL didn't happen ITTL). Democrats hold the White House from 1993 to 2005; Jeb Bush narrowly defeats incumbent president Al Gore in the '04 election but loses his own re-election bid in the wake of the economic meltdown in 2007-2008.

Ahhhh, I was assuming LBJ gets two terms, HHH somehow wins in '72 (vs. Nixon, and *Watergate happens during the campaign?), doesn't run in '76 because of cancer, then I didn't get it. Carter winning in '76 after 16 years of Dem. rule seems to be stretching it very thin though..

Maybe Barbara Jordan instead of Lockwood, John Connally wins in '76 (no chance to nominate anyone to SCOTUS), crashes and burns, doesn't run again and Bush wins? Hmmm. That would be neat since Connally = LBJ and Bush = Humphrey in that scenario.
