Alternate Stalins

Inspired by the alternate Hitler thread (although this is NOT a DBWI), what alternate Stalins are there in TLs here or in people's imaginations. I imagine there are enough possibilities for someone as intelligent, cunning and ruthless as he was to end up in a position of power. Anybody any ideas? For some odd reason, my TLs always have the Russian Revolution squashed and he ends up a communist guerrilla fighter/terrorist in the Caucasus...

Anybody else have ideas? Maybe a president Joseph Stalin (the horror, the horror. I dare say it could be worse than a McCarthy presidency ).

I suggest an orthodox priest ATL.

The Father of Steel? :D

"Uncle Joe" Stalin, Russian emigre to the U.S., and founder of a political dynasty including the first Russian Orthodox president.

That'll only work if his parents decide to go to the US after his conception and before his birth. Admittedly, it's not impossible. Supposing he ends up in New York, I wonder how his political views will develop, supposing he gets any political ambitions ITTL in the first place. I don't think his cobbler dad who was already an alcoholic by Stalin's birth is going to be any more successful in the US. Stalin's paranoia and sociopathy could still emerge from the guy's repeated beatings. Stalin's character will still be steeled, but his context will be different tho.

"Founder of a political dynasty including the first Russian Orthodox president." implies that one of his sons or grandsons (or even a granddaughter) goes on to become president.

In any timeline that doesn't involve him falling in with the Marxists his name would be probally still be Dzhugashvili (or Jughashvili if he stays in Georgia). Though if he imigrates to the US he'll probally choose something easier for Americans to pronounce or spell.

From reading a bit about his early life, he was very involved in organizing workers in and around Baku and even supported the constitutional revolution in Persia with arms. Could we see Stalin continue to be involved in Persia as some sort of Bolshevik contact or guerrilla fighter there, or (probably ASB) have Stalin convert to Islam and lead a Communist revolution in Azerbaijan and/or Persia?

How could any Russian forget Uncle Joe? The kind old man who read childrens' books every day on the radio (then television) for 23 years! He sang songs about sharing and friendship, and did puppet shows!

Oh yeah, I've heard my parents talk about that. Although they mostly remember his costar and successor Uncle Ho.

Stalin is heard speaking ill of Lenin in 1918, is exiled from Russia, and runs off to the U.S. where, 5 years later Disney finds him and casts him as a new character named "Huga the Horse" who's popularity rivals Mickey Mouse.

Well, on its way to the fateful congress in exile of the Russian Socialdemocrats, he stopped for a while in Italy, working at Ancona's docks in an anarchist cooperative and as a bell-ringer in an Armenian monastery in Venice (!). What if italian police prevented him from leaving and he stopped there ? Might we see a Jimmy Hoffa-esque trade union organizer Josehp Stalin ? :D
Who knows, maybe he gets acquainted with revolutionary syndicalists and later joins the Fascist Party :p

Maybe he continued working as a mole for the Ochrana , the tzar's secret police , where he had been planted to keep an eye for those pesky bolsheviks , whose pitiful coup was crushed by Kerensky's loyalist troops in October '17 at St' Petersburg . Or , even better, he never droped out of the church school he briefly attended at Tiblisi during his youth.(both facts OTL)

After the failed Bolshevik coup, he immigrates to the U.S. and becomes Joe Steel, the devious and ruthless leader of the Russian crime synidcate in New York. His headquaters at the Kremlin Tea Room in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn ("Little Moscow by the Sea") was the scene of numerous "sitdowns" with his great rivals, and sometimes allies, the Corleones of the Cosa Nostra.
