alternate socialism

okay, so what are either some:

A) alternate names that socialism could be called

or

B) any alternate ideology that could have arisen in place of socialism.

I really think that anarcho-synadicalism had some serious potential. The idea was that labor unions should be the unit of organizing the state. Well, they were anarchists, so they didn't believe in a state per se, but of the various anarchist ideologies, this one seems like one with some legs. The emphasis on labor union and unionizing in general, and on the very democratic side of unions, where there is group decisions on how things should be done, seems to be a good base to create a political party. Labor unions to me seem like the best base from which a political party can be based. They are similar to a party structure, except that the people in them are bound not just by political loyalty, but also by economic ties. When one talks about worker solidarity I can't think of a better base than the organized worker. So I guess I'm really arguing that socialism could be replaced by "Laborism" an ideology that views the union as the path to political power.

"Laborism" could also spawn some nice extreme versions of itself. With an emphasis on Big Labor to oppose Big Business this ideology would end up fitting well into a Corportist model of economic management. The violence that it took to establish many labor unions would translate well to rough and tumble democratic politics. And by using labor unions as a base to create political parties one could perhaps more easily keep the union movement alive after it has scored significant political victories, since the labor unions are the organized base of the Labor Party. I'm thinking about the decline of the Organized Labor movement in the United States
