Alternate Scenario of Karl XII

The Great Northern War begins on the 22nd of February, 1700. Russia, Denmark-Norway and Saxony declare war on Sweden. This is an alternate timeline scenario. Tell me what you think!

  • 1700, Karl XII leads the Carolean Army, he and his men are transported around the Danish blockade into Sjaelland. Denmark-Norway invade Holstein-Gottorp. Anglo-Dutch ships arrive outside Copenhagen in support of Karl XII. His army assaults the city during the bombing, with much success. Karl XII storms the palace and captures the Danish-Norwegian Monarchy. Christian Detlev is crowned King of Denmark. The Bjelkes are offered the Crown of Norway. Austria is offered some territory in Holstein if they declare war on Denmark-Norway. Karl XII and the Carolean Army travel to Narva to meet the Russians. I don't think the Naval powers (England-Scotland and the Netherlands) will agree to Karl XII placing someone else on the Danish-Norwegian throne. The naval powers upheld the integrity of Holstein-Gottorp as they had promised by treaty. They were still not interested in Sweden OR Denmark dominating the Baltic, as it would threaten the vital Baltic trade.

OTL the Danes stayed out, renting out their troops to fight in the War of Spanish Succession and did not re-enter the war until after the Swedish disaster at Poltava 1709.

In fact, if you can delay the start of the Great Nordic War, both Saxony and Denmark will be inolved either directly or by renting out their armies in the War of Spanish Succession, and Peter may not be bold enough to go at the Swedes alone.
