Alternate Republican and Democratic candidates in 1968

Aside from the standard lineup of Richard Nixon (OTL's nominee), George Romney, Ronald Reagan and Nelson Rockefeller, who could have stood and possibly won the Republican presidential nomination in 1968?

Same thing for the Democrats: aside from RFK (had he lived), Gene McCarthy and Hubert Humphrey (OTL's nominee), who could have possibly won the Democratic presidential nomination?

Points of divergence can take place at any time after and including the 1964 US presidential election, so there should be plenty of time to work with.

If Romney and Rockefeller are kept from running, presumably someone like Scranton would be the liberal Republican candidate. If Goldwater doesn't win the nomination in 1964, he could conceivably run in 1968. And going with something totally different, if John Wayne runs for and wins the 1966 California gubernatorial election, he could run in 1968, though I'm not sure about how his white supremacy would play out.

As for the Democrats, you could have LBJ run (obviously). He'd lose in a landslide though. I know you said no to Gene, but LBJ was considering him as his running mate in 1964. If he was chosen as such, he could be the Democratic nominee in 1968, except he'd have to keep his opposition to Vietnam under wraps (as Humphrey did IOTL). In a nice twist, Humphrey could openly oppose Vietnam and could run against McCarthy as a New Left-backed candidate.

Lyndon Johnson (D-TX) vs Hiram Fong (R-HI) vs George Wallace (AI-AL)

Johnson runs with no primary opponents

Reagan stays out of Politics, Nixon does not run, Rockefeller dies in 1967 and Romney does not run as well. Fong gains support from Centrists and Minorities, alongside that gets the endorsement of Goldwater so that Goldwaterites vote for him.

Hiram Fong is too non-white.
