Alternate Religion Timeline

It's around 700 AD and the Arabs after Mohamed have taken parts of the Sassanid Empire, but not all. a peace treaty was signed and there was never a war with the Byzantines. Instead the 3 powers of the Middle east (Byzantium, Arabia, Persia) signed the treaty of Cestiphon stating:

-Each country may chose the Religion for their lands
-countries will allow missionaries of other Religions to enter their lands

the Byzantines Religion was Christianity and sent missionaries to Arabia and Persia.
The Sassanids were Zoroastrian, but kept to themselves for the most part.
the Arabs were Muslim and sent missionaries to the Byzantine empire and Persia.

attached is a map showing the spread of Islam, Dark Green=80%+ Islam, Medium green=~50% Islam, light green=5-20% Islam. Black is the Byzantine Empire, Brown is the Sassanid Persians.

Also, tell me if Religious tolerance is implausible in the year 700 AD.

Given that Islam is so new I think that it would struggle to survive if not conquering countries, after all howelse do you prove that your god is better than everyone elses god? Islam would sign no treaty with the non Christians, but may be able to sign one with Constantinople as Christainity was seen as a stepping stone to Islam (as was Judasiam).

While I think you can come up with some timelines where Zoarastrianism survives the rise of Islam, I think the allowance of missionaries into each others' territories at this period of time is very, very implausible. If you want that to be possible, you need to give a lot more background change to explain how it could come to pass.

I hope you keep going.

I hope you keep going.

thanks :)

does anyone here think it is plausible for Zoarastrianism to become a major world Religion?

also a question:
what type of languages would pop up in North Africa in the centuries to come, because Arabic wont be spread through that region as it belongs to the Byzantines.

heres a map of the major countries, outside of which, everything is pretty much OTL.
Purple=Eastern Roman Empire
Green=Arabia
light Blue=Sassanid Persia
yellow=Axum
Red=Anglo Saxons
Dark Blue=Franks
light Green= Celtic peoples
light Brown=Visigoths
Brown=Avar Khanate

an update

After Mohammed united Arabia he attacked the Sassanid Empire, he led his troops to Cestiphon, set siege, and died shortly afterwards in 633. After his death, the siege was lifted, and during this time the Sassanids under Yazdegerd III regrouped. Abu Bakr was chosen to succeed Mohammed, and continued the war. The war went back and forth until 639 when peace was signed defining their borders (see map). Things were relatively peaceful until the Persian King in 646 passed an edict stating that "the only true faith of Persia is Zoarastrianism, what followed was a brutal persecution of religious minorities. This angered Arabia, and The Eastern Roman Empire. Persia would have a hard time fighting either nation let alone both. Both nations threatened Persia, and as soon as Yazdegerd died, his son signed the treaty of Cestiphon in 652 stating:
-Each country may chose the Religion for their lands
-countries will allow missionaries of other Religions to enter their lands
Many hoped that this would bring in a new era of Religious tolerance, they were wrong, after a century the treaty was neglected and transgressed against by all 3 parties (Arabia, Byzantium, and Persia).

I am sorry to say but this is ASB. With a POD so late, the Byzantine Empire's Middle Eastern part, and the Sassanid Empire, are rotting corpses. I suppose with good Roman or Persian luck, you could get the Arabs to invade the Byzantines and stop after conquering Mesopotamia, then just conquer Persia, or get the Arabs to make peace with the Persians and invade the Byzantines and conquer Anatolia, Mesopotamia, Syria, and Egypt like in ImmortalImpi's timeline. But the Arabs are destined to expand somewhere with a POD like this.

In addition, those borders you have in the first post are fairly ASB too. Why--well, just take a look at a topographical map of the region and you'll see what I mean. Islam is not going to avoid the Nile and just convert the extremely arid Egyptian coast, nor is it going to only convert the southern half of Persia, which is a huge mountainous plateau, without getting the rest of Mesopotamia or at least the rest of Persia.

If you want a timeline with a 'reserved' Islam, the POD has to be earlier.

EDIT: Plus Zoroastrians and Christians are not going to take to this crazy new barbarians' religion so kindly that they'll allow them to come convert their people!
