Alternate Religion Discussion Thread

Hello there AH users! Every wanted to talk about your alternate history religion you created, but think it doesn't generate sufficient interest or too risky? This is the chance to discuss about your alternate history religion with other users who will comment and suggest about it.

To start the thread, I'll be introducing my AH religion:
----
Ugama Cathay
Founder: The Oracle of the Stone Elephant
Tenets:
  • Worship of divinities and spirits referred as Joss, who control the elements and ideas of nature, and rules over the Mortal/Material Realm. The Josses are responsible for giving the Kaom Amarelo fortitude to survive the toils and injustices of slavery.
  • Veneration of ancestors and their spirits called Anitao and Keramat.
  • A strong emphasis on filial piety, want for freedom, importance of identity and memories, preserving knowledge and wisdom, fighting back the oppressors and enduring in a world of sengsara (suffering).
  • Belief in the foretold arrival of the Amida, a Maitreya-like figure who would deliver the Kaom Amarelo from slavery and teach them the pure adat of Ugama Cathay.
History:
When the Trans-Pacific Slave Trade occurred in the late 16th century after the enforced ban on enslavement of Africans and Native Americans, thousands of people from Asia were brought to the Iberian colonies of America as prendiza (slaves) on treacherous, deadly voyages crossing the Pacific that transited at Hawaii and the Milislhas (Hundred Islands) for resupply.

The forced enslavement and gradual destruction on ethnic and religious identities of prendiza caused an intermixing of various religions, languages and cultures from Asia to form the Kaom Amarelo ethnicity, the Basa Amarelo language and the Ugama Cathay religion.

On the Autumn of 1575, a young prendiza girl referred as the Oracle of the Stone Elephant experienced a divine revelation. She heard a booming voice like an elephant that led her to a murky pool of water mixed with muck. Glancing at the pool of water, she touched the water and it miraculously cleared. In front of her reflection was an elephant-headed being.

The elephant-headed being referred himself as Joss Ganesa. Joss Ganesa taught the Oracle about divinities and spirits referred as Joss-Joss and the importance of remembering the ancestors and identity as well with the fight for freedom against the oppressors. He requested that she must carve a Stone Elephant as a virtuous act of merit-making and piety.

Over the next few nights, the Oracle learned many things from Joss Ganea. She learned about the divine realm of Cathay, the three hereafters and the paths of rebirth, the principal Josses called the Harmonious Ones, the Josaphat and the Wali. But most of all there was the prophecy of the Amida that became important.

The Oracle and Joss Ganesa helped write down the principal corpus of Ugama Cathay which was based on their nightly discussions and lectures called the Ancestral Kitab-Kitab, which consisted of
  1. Hymnody of the Harmonious Ones
  2. Radiance of Immeasurable Light
  3. The Great Play of the Josaphat
  4. Records of the Anitao and the Keramat
  5. Chronicle on the Creation of the World
  6. Three Realms and Many Rebirths
  7. Hagiographies of the Wali
  8. Teachings of the Oracle
  9. The Adat of the Josses
The Ancestral Kitab-Kitab became the basis of Ugama Cathay and its lore & adat along with the compilation of other scriptures and lore scattered all over Benoa Taixei (the Americas)

Pantheon:
  • Joss Masu: The Joss of the Seas and Water, as well the Joss of Mercy. She is a Joss that hears the anguished, agonized cries of enslaved Kaom Amarelo that she strives to protect and controls the seas and waters. She is often accompanied with her acolytes Jade Dragon Maiden and Golden Youth of Wealth. Her epithets are Great Mother of Mercy and Lady of the Seas.
  • Joss Inthera: The Joss of the Sky and Thunder, as well Lord of the Josses. He is a Joss that empowers the Kaom Amarelo to fight back against their masters, slavers and overseers. He controls the weather and brings down thunder and rain. His epithets are Kingly One, Britora-Slayer and Kindler of Rain.
  • Joss Ganesa: The Joss of Wisdom. He is a Joss that imbues wisdom into Kaom Amarelo, especially pendeta (scholars) and clergy, and maintains the stream of wisdom. He is also breaks obstacles that impedes the Kaom Amarelo. His epithets are Destroyer of Obstacles and Stone Elephant.

I wonder if only Henry VIII, instead of merely creating separate Church of England, decided that he heard Odin was already died and Thor reaches up to him to return to Pagan roots.

And somehow, managed to defeat anything The Pope thrown in as the later called for Crusade to remove the "Heathen King".

Revived and Reformed English Paganism (who ironically drawn more elements from Norse Paganism), would be one kickass Religion to have IATL.

  • Joss Tezam: The Joss of Hereafters and children, as well the Joss of the Damned. He is a Joss who protects Amarelo children from harm and danger, and takes a role of the netherworld judge as Joss Yanma. He guides, protects the souls of children in the netherworld on his bosom from trials and dangers that await in their journey. He harrows the damned in Neraku (Purgatory) through the transferal of prayers and virtues from the Kaom Amarelo, as well teaching them the adat. His epithets are Earth Treasury, Nether Bonze and Caretaker of the Innocent.
  • Joss Boraspathy: The Joss of the Soil and Fertility. He is a Joss who takes the form of an earthen lizard and controls the soil's fertility so that the Kaom Amarelo can grow crops. He is also adorned on Kitab-Kitab and staha (spellbooks), and counsels the Harmonious Ones. His epithets are Lizard of the Soil and Jovial Wealth.

I made a religion which was the focus of it’s own TL called Namhkhaism https://www.alternatehistory.com/fo...h-and-god-a-longer-lived-genghis-khan.398686/

The TLDR version is that it expands upon OTL myths that Genghis Khan was a descendant of Abraham through his concubine Keturah, being a Tibeto-Mongolian spin on Abrahamic faith. I wrote entries for the Holy Kadag, a religious text written by Kublai Khan in a polyphonic matter.

Could you elaborate on your Founders, Tenets, History, Pantheon, Practices and Holidays?

...I do in the link I posted... but a TLDR

Founder: Kublai Khan, though the faithful would say Genghis Khan refounded the ancient faith ala Islam

Tenets: God is present in all things and acts on all things as the source from which Sunnyata/emptiness (the Buddhist epistemological concept) emanates. Anyone can communicate with God through Tantric meditation, although interpretation is largely left to priests due to karma manifesting over multiple lifetimes.
Namkhaism believes the binding of Isaac was meant to be a teaching lesson that Abraham misunderstood, and in running away he caused everyone to be unable to escape samsara. Genghis Khan, as the inheritor of Abraham’s Karma, fulfilled the covenant and taught the path to salvation.

Pantheon: Monotheistic worship of Tengrii-Allah. Technically there is a devil (Olgoi-Khorkhoi) but it is considered in mainstream Namhkhayoga (another name for the religion) to be more symbolic of Samsara.

Practices: Meditation on the nature of God, and praise to Mahdi-Maitreya (Genghis Khan) for opening the way to salvation. Typical worship involves temples divided into laymen and adepts, with laymen reciting as a group prayer the “red lines” whilst the adept sing the blue lines in polyphonic style. Whilst the red are spoken in the language of the worshippers, the blue is usually spoken in classical Tibetan.

Holidays:

You need a completely different Henry. He was devoutly Christian and broke with Rome only because he feared plunging his nation into another civil war. Prior to the break, he wrote theological treaties against Luther and was awarded the title Defender of the Faith by Pope Leo X. He never wavered from his professed Christianity even while turning against Rome.

Henry and his court would have be well aware that turning to paganism would have plunged his country into civil war and likely invite foreign invasion. He simply isn't going to endanger England in this manner.

Supposing he considered such a move, he would likely be declared mad and be quickly deposed.

Ugama Cathay
Holidays:
  • Festival of Rain: It is a holiday that celebrates the end of the dry season and the beginning of the wet season. The Kaom Amarelo observe by telling the story of how Joss Inthera slain the dragon Beritora (Vritra) and brought back the waters of the world, and celebrating it. It also marks the start of the Third Amarelo War against the Iberians, a great war that ended with the liberation from slavery and the sparing of Iberians.
  • Night of Great Compassion: It is a significant day for the Kaom Amarelo because it represents the end of enslavement and the end of the Third Amarelo War. It also spiritually significant it represents the triumphant release of great compassion by the Amida for the salvation of Amarelo souls earthbound and those reside in Neraku (purgatory). It occurs on the Spring and accompanied by the appearance of the August Star.
  • Nativity of the Josaphats: This holiday commemorates the birth, the life and the death of the Josaphats Shakamoni and Amida as well as their companions. It occurs on the full moon between spring and summer.

Twelver Posadists

Founders: unknown, records lost during Hack War of mid-21st century

Tenets: syncretic religion of Twelver Shi'a and Posadism. Believes the Twelfth Imam went into occultation as a guest of the Ascended Ones, an advanced race inhabiting Scholtz's Star 22 LY from Earth. Once they have taught him all their knowledge, they will return him to Earth as the Mahdi, in conjunction with a nuclear war that destroys the wicked. He and Isa (Jesus, who also abides with the Ascended Ones) will then help the survivors rebuild the world as a technologically advanced, socialist paradise in accordance with the teachings of Islam.

Saoshyantism

In the early 9th century some Iranian dude proclaims himself the first of the 3 Zoroastrian saviors and is martyred. This fractures Zoroastrianism
