hey, all. i've been batting this thread idea around for a while now and finally decided to go ahead and make it. to be perfectly clear right away, this is about alternate/additional derivative genres and subgenres of cyberpunk and steampunk. there's already over a dozen known and recognized -punk genres in contemporary media besides steampunk and cyberpunk (dieselpunk, clockpunk, atompunk, etc.) but what kinds of alternate -punk genres do y'all think would or could develop in a given TL, either as alternate pop culture or as how the TL itself develops over time, therefore basically becoming a -punk genre?
i'll start us off. in addition to a discussion on "recessionpunk" that i contributed to a while back as an extrapolation of the pop culture and the social climate surrounding the Great Recession, i recently came up with the idea of "electropunk". i even looked it up--as far as i can tell, this isn't a -punk genre yet. basically, it would be a direct alternative to steampunk, mainly set in teh same places and time period as steampunk but grounded in electrical devices instead of steam engines. think of it like if everything Tesla ever came up with was realized and implemented on a massive scale.
