Hello all,

This is an idea that's been bouncing around in the back of my head for a little while. In this Case Blue, Army Group South moves east and takes Stalingrad before turning south, per the original plan. I'm sure this has been discussed extensively before. Afterwards, however, instead of heading strait south towards the Caucasus oil fields, Army Group A (which could probably be somewhat reinforced with forces tied up at Stalingrad OTL) heads south and then turns east again. The goal is to reach the Caspian Sea at or south of Astrakhan and in so doing cut off the oil fields from the rest of the Soviet Union, paralyzing the Soviet war effort for lack of oil once they run through their reserves. Any thoughts? Would it be better or worse than what the Germans actually did?
