Alternate Naval Ships

Basically, this is a game where you name a few alternate naval ships and briefly describe them. All posts are in the same timeline. Here we go:

USS Walter Mondale (Commissioned 2008)- Newest aircraft carrier in the United States fleet. Most advanced carrier in the world, too.

HMS Benjamin Disraeli (Commissioned 2007)- Newest aircraft carrier in the Angrezi Raj fleet and the first to be commanded by an Indian Muslim Draka officer.

RFS Admiral Kuznetsov- the Russian Federation's only aircraft carrier.

SNFS Boris Yeltsin- Siberian Republic destroyer named after the first President of the Siberian Republic, Boris Yeltsin.

RCN Chiang Kei-Sheik-One of China's 14 aircraft carriers. Recently deployed to Angola after revolt against Portugal.
IKN Yi-Sun-Shin-One of Korea's 3 aircraft carriers. Commisoned in 1982 during the Transpacific War.

IRN Ivan IV-The Russian supercarrier destroyed at the battle of Hainan by the US Navy.
USS Charles Nimitz-The world's first submarine carrier. Proved descicive in Pacific Rim Alliance victory in the Transpacific War.

The RNS Isaac Komnenos. A guided missile destroyer currently serving as the flagship of the Rhomanian navy's Persian Gulf flotilla, amid some controversy. Commentators question the wisdom of sustaining such a large and logistically demanding warship so far from Massawa in the Red Sea.

JDS Atago: Cruiser, Japanese Maritime Defense Force, one of the largest ships allowed by the Japanese constitution. Involved in the July incident between the USN and that of the Siberian Republican Navy

The armored battle cruiser ANS (Aksumitic Naval Ship) St. Ezana the Emperor is known to historians as the most formidable warship of the Huihui War (1857-1861), with innovative rotating gun turrets mounting massive seven inch guns. The ANS St. Ezana the Emperor is credited with the destruction of six enemy rams at the Battle of Mauritius (1859). This catastrophic loss greatly demoralized the enemies of Christendom, and helped speed the collapse (1866) of the Chinese Caliphate.

HMS Gustav den Store (Gustavus the Great), semi-armoured sailing ship of the line with steam-powered screws for port and archipelago navigation. It is still one of the oddballs of ship building and the one of its class. As most of you know, she was the flagship of the Swedish sea fleet (as opposed to the archipelago fleet) and her destruction of the Russian high sea fleet (3 ships of the line, 8 frigates and a a few screw corvettes that got away due to their speed) and then the Neva riverine (intended as an archipelago fleet once Kronstad surrendered) fleet in spring and autumn 1877 respectively is still impressive.

I still have a print of the battle on the Neva river hanging on my wall - Alexander ordering parts of the army sieging Kronstad into barges to attempt boardings, the galleys of the riverine fleet attacking, the smoke, and HMS Gustav den Store in the middle, devastating all. A fortified position assault by infantry - on water!

Of course, the damage done by the new rifled guns of some of the russian siege artillery meant that she sunk, but kept fighting!

Without her, I am sure Sweden would have gotten out of the 1877 war as bad as the Ottomans did. Good thing we did not re-sign that alliance again.

The LLS(Lord's League Ship) Inevitable: The first neuclear-powered ship of the League that conquered most of Scandinavia in the early 20th century. Deployed in 1974, it was the first lead in the thourough uplift of the League's navy. Armed with heavy S-A and S-S missiles, and carrying a complete attack formation of aircraft, the Inevitable was one of the first indications that the LL was beginning to grow expansionistic. It is most famous for the Battle of the Baltic Sea, where it alone destroyed fifteen russian battleships and crippled many more. It was sunk by mines on patrol in the Adriatic Sea.

IRN Ivan IV
Unlikely. Russians weren't big fans of numbering system pre-Romanovs. Most Tsars/Princes of the era are referred to by either name (Vasili Ivanovich) or by combination of name and nickname (Ivan Kalita). So, would Russians ever name ship after Ivan IV (unlikely, considering pretty spotty reputation he enjoyed), it would be "Ivan Grozny".
