Alternate "Most Progressive" Nations

Still a lot of social conservatism to be worked through, from both religious and social conditioning. Not enough soft-touch Lutherans (unlike Scandinavia) to make people just get over abortion, homosexuality and so on.

The Homosexuality and aboritonw ere decrminalized if not outright legalized in Weimar Germany, st least in the larger cities given Berlin had an open and blatant gay scene....

You guys forget an evident contender for the Numéro Un title - our cousins, France.

There is some issues in the way of Fraternité, Égalité and cie - a certain racism from somes, machism, but it start pretty far off; there is also the issue of colonialism, I admit...

But guys, the nation of the rights of citizens and all... It could be perhaps easily improved with some PODs.

Maybe the Restauration of Monarchy, or Napoléon 3 where part of the problems..

Linguistic suppression would be a better issue......

What is progressivism?

I know what it is in our timeline, but ideas on this topic could be rather different in alternate history, particularly if one employs a POD before, say, 1945. This is something to take into account when confronting this question.

Women being able to vote or not, Japan was moving in a progressive direction before the backslide into militarism during the Great Depression.

The right POD might make an alternate "Republic of Palestine" rather progressive.

Frankly, Wendell, it may be a bit of a challenge, but it is indeed plausible to have a more progressive Palestine IMO. Perhaps if the left-wing and democratic Zionists(if an Israel were to exist), and their Arab counterparts had more of a say, and if we could eliminate the influence of the more radical Muftis, that'd solve a good bit of the problem right there. :D

If Palestine was an actual state, it would be quite prosperous, and could achieve a higher standard of living than some European nations. So it's not the hardest thing to do.

Well, it really depends. in all honesty, there isn't much in the way of mineral resources; Saudi Arabia has all the oil in that part of the Mideast. But perhaps if advanced irrigation techniques can be pioneered as they were in OTL's Israel, then prosperity could indeed be just around the corner.
