Alternate Modern Ideologies

Faraday Cage

After the late 18th and early 19th century you have the stage set for new ideologies to develop and be in a position to radically change the world. So; going from the same root of American democracy and French radical republicanism that helped shape nationalism, socialism, and other ideologies; what are some alternate twists and turns that could have been taken to arrive at different points than the philosophies/ideologies that were developed in OTL?

For my 2 cents, I think another economics driven philosophy could have played out besides socialism. Any ideology could appeal to the masses overthrowing the smaller number of elites on top, but Marx's work on economics highlighted the change from noble and peasant to industrial business owners/managers and workers. So perhaps another ideology could have developed along that same economic insight but ended up in a far different direction than Marxism.

An interesting ideology that I have noticed as a footnote was called Social Nihilism. From what I understand in the context in which it was referenced, Social Nihilism was the be all end all of deconstructionism beliefs. Basically, the argument goes like this:

Society is divided into classes.
Classes are an extension of economics.
Economics favor certain classes because of birthright.
Religion justifies birthright.
God is responsible for religion.
God does not exist, therefore, society must be destroyed.

I'm not sure what the socio-political arguments for Social Nihilism would have looked like, but I'm fairly certain it would be a close mirror to Marxism, but without the emphasis on economic egalitarianism. In fact, it would probably support many of the Anarchists' arguments against the idea of money and currency economics period, thereby throwing Marx out the window.

Another good economic theory was corporatism, in which large corporations dominated the economy and played a heavy-handed role in the government. I believe (but may be mistaken) that Fascist Italy played with corporatism.

I've wondered if a society could be based on social Darwinism? Would probably be pretty dystopic, but it would have some interesting social and political dynamics I would think.
