President John F. Kennedy preferred Senator Stuart Symington of Missouri or Senator Henry "Scoop" Jackson of Washington for the role as running mate over Senate Majority Leader Lyndon B. Johnson. Robert Kennedy tried dissuading Johnson and Jack explained to Robert that J. Edgar Hoover would provide Johnson evidence of Kennedy's womanizing if Kennedy dare say no. In the voice vote deciding Johnson as the Vice Presidential nominee, more people shouted "no" and "nay". There's even speculation that Johnson was involved in Kennedy's assassination because rumors had it that Kennedy was going to drop Johnson from the ticket in 1964.
