Alternate History Map

All,

is there a program of some type I can use to create alternate history maps?

I see them all the time but am not sure where they come from.

Thanks.

From Paint to Illustrator, anything that can edit an image can make a map.

Never save as a JPG and you can use just about anything.

Well, TBH, from all I've seen, most people typically just use MSPaint or Paint.Net for the simpler stuff, or Photoshop and similar programs for more complex projects.

Paint works for the basic idea. Gimp or Photoshop for when you want to get fancy.

Pencil and paper if you wanna roll old school.

Thanks all.

Having a bit of trouble getting the hang of Paint.

Copying and pasting is a pain.

Note:

Above is what I was trying to work out.

It is my counterfactual US map based on a POD timeline where Prussia is defeated in the 7 years war.

Some key points are that Quebec, not, Acadia was subjected to the British ethnic cleansing of French occupants.

Later, in the American Revolutionary War, the US wins quicker because Great Britain cannot call upon the mercenaries of Hanover, Hesse, Brunswick, etc to help in 1776 and because Great Britain initiated hostilities early with France and Spain.

Britain held onto Newfoundland, New York islands, SC/NC didn't join new union due to slavery issues, neither did Rhode Island for different issues and France received Acadia back.

I'll put together a better post one of these days, probably over X-Mas.

Only ever add text after you've coloured everything.

And yes, use the maps AH.com has made. (Or occasionally wikipedia editable maps.)

Add labels in a program that uses layers, like Photoshop. That way you can put the text in a different label, which lets you reuse maps more easily.
