drool...

Reminds me of the guys who made the game Caesar. Instead of Caesar III, they originally were going to make Caesar in Space. I'm still pissed they didn't. But this one looks awesome. Except for the concept art being in English.

I have the Ogre and GEV games from way back when...

Actually, my first venture into AH was another one of those Microgames, called Raid on Iran, about WI the failed rescue attempt to recover the hostages had gone on. At that time, when feelings between Iran and the US were very hostile, I used to play it solitaire and, instead of trying to rescue the hostages, I sent the US troopers on "kill all those damned students" missions....

actually, board wargames had a long history of AH in their ranks.... Avalon Hill had a game on the attack on Crete in WW2, and threw in a bonus game about the planned but not done attack on Malta. The huge Europa game system had one module about the possible German attack on Spain and Portugal in WW2.

Been playing Axis and Allies: Iron Blitz. They have a couple of neat AH scenarios in this edition:

"Iron Blitz includes seven pre-set scenarios. Three scenarios take the war all the way back to 1939. The Axis is poised to attack an unsuspecting world. The first plays out under the normal alliance structure. Two alternatives are included -- one where Japan and Russia switch allegiance, and one where the US remains neutral throughout the conflict. A 1942 scenario is included where Russia remains neutral. Two scenarios follow the conflict closer to the war's end. In both scenarios the Russian Bear "demands land for the blood of her children" and precipitates another war -- this time on the side of Germany or Japan. The final scenario plays out under Cold War conditions. Russia squares off against the US and UK in theaters all across the world."

I like hacking it so I can play as the Scythians. Then, I overrun the Germans...sixteen units of horse archers run circles around them and fill their formations with arrows, until their armies break apart and scatter, at which point they close in, showering individual soldiers with arrows...often, it's like 93% losses for the Germans and like, 7% for me. It's really funny...

I play with the Total Realism Mod. I have a game where I am Pontus, and I am currently driving towards Jerusalem in the South, and I am invading Byzantium to the West.
