Alternate History Challenge: Great Lakes

Design independent states around the Great Lakes!

The following states (you may define the borders yourself) must be included:
- Michigan
- Superior
- Ontario
- Erie
- Huron

These other states can be included:
- Ohio
- Illinois
- Iroquois
- Susquehanna

There can't be any unions, like the United States of America, the Dixie State, the Confederation of the Great Lakes, the Confederate States of America, or whatever.

Please make a map and show states and cities.
Also, think of a pre-1750 point of divergence and design flags if you like.

Use creativity, fantasy and originality! :D

Do these nations have to have those names specifically? Like, can I have a country based around Superior but with a different name?

I was thinking some kind of Native American states.

That's possible too, but in fact I like you to use Superior as a name as well if you can... but, anyway, it doesn't matter at all in fact. Just do whatever you like.

I've seen a TL with an independent Michigan following a bloody Toledo War, and the Brits were planning on making a Native American buffer state in the GL region. There's two

Not the best looking map, or the most plausible, and I'm not 100% sure it matches all the criterion with locations of states (the Erie state, the Iroquois is a bit off from Erie) but my offering.

POD is that the Iroquois Confederation doesn't fracture during the American Revolutionary War, instead deciding to join the British in their entirety. The Americans still win, but the Iroquois remain strong and act as a buffer against the Americans. This allows the Hurons, Miami, and Ojibwe enough time to organise and to hold out against the American encroachment.

Meanwhile in Europe, butterflies lead to a more successful Napoleonic France which devastates Britain's strength. The British lose Quebec, and Ontario goes its independent way. As such, there is no power capable of encroaching on the Native American territories in the Great Lakes.

Tecumseh manages to get the Five Civilised Nations in the South to join his Confederacy, and establishes a powerful Native Confederation to hold out against the Americans. They are defeated by the confederation, and Tecumseh's Confederacy survives and thrives as an independent nation, further stymying American attempts to expand into Native lands.
