So in OTL, there are quite a few symbols we use that made perfect sense back when we started using them, and now don't really make sense but survive on tradition. Like the "save" symbol on a computer being a floppy disk, or a old-style handset phone being the symbol for a phone call, or the envelope on the "send" button on an email. Let's brainstorm some ATL obsolete signifiers. Pre-1900 is fine but I figure most of then will be post-1900.
For example, I could see an ATL where pneumatic tube systems are more common standardize on a message capsule as the symbol for emails. Or maybe the crosswalk signal is a traffic-directing policeman. Or the standard map symbol for an airfield is a flat area with a mooring mast and a zeppelin, as they were the primary air-travel method for a while. That last one would be fun to spring on interdimensional travelers - they see a map and think zeppelins will be everywhere, but really they're as gone as IOTL
. Thoughts?
