Alternate Great Greek States

Various Greek city states rose to prominence during Ancient Greek History at different periods,Athens and Sparta were not the only ones;
During the second part of the 6th century BC the Greek Phoceans emigrating to found a colony(Massalia) in Western Mediterranean met the Carthagenian navy combined with the Etruscan one in the sea-battle of Alalia,north-west of Corsica and inflicted a crushing defeat on the Carthagenians and their allies(535 BC).The victory gave the Phoceans supremacy of the sea in Western Mediterranean for at least a generation.
Militus in the Westrn coast of Asia Minor was the richest and most advanced city for over 500 years in Eastern Mediterranean until the Persian invasion towards the end of the sixth century BC.
Massalia(later Massilia or Marseille-in nowdays France),a Phocean colony,dominated the trade in Western Mediterranean for over 500 years,becoming the first ally and friend of Rome outside Italy.
Argos was the dominant power in Peloponnese and rival of Sparta until the Persian Wars.
Sparta became the dominant power in Peloponnese in the sixth century BC after defeating Argos and founding the Peloponnesian alliance whereby becoming the arbitrer of Greek affairs and the military leader of Greece also having in its alliance the strongest sea-powers in Greece then,the city of Megara and the island of Aegina,outside the coast of Athens.
Athens became a driving force in Greek affairs during the Tyranny of Pesistratus and later by the Democreatic revolution of Cleisthenes,followed by the Athenian Empire after the Persian Wars.
The end of Peloponnesian War saw the rise of Spartan hegemony which ended with the battle of Leuktra(371 BC) which marked the rise of Thebes with its old Beocean Confederacy,until the rise of Phillip of Macedon.
Dion marked the rise of Syracusae in Sicily and its supremacy over Magna Grecia and with the assistance of Akragas(Agrigentum) inflicted succesive defeats on the Carthagenians on the island and restricted them in a small western part of the island.
