Alternate Electoral Maps II

I came up with the strangest 2016 electoral map I think could have possibly occurred with the candidates we had in OTL.

General idea is Clinton boosts her performance in the Sun Belt states and manages to pick up traditionally Republican strongholds in the South and Southwest. Trump does better with the WWC in the Midwest and rural New England, which leads to him picking up Minnesota, New Hampshire and Maine. And McMullin wins Utah.

I was somewhat conflicted about who to have win Florida (and thus the election) on this map, but I figured that, given Clinton generally did better in the Sun Belt, it would make the most sense for her to win Florida as well.

Was putting Dr. in parentheses intentional?

Would Loudoun, VA go that red?

 

Yes, because this is a uniform swing from 2004. I decided to use that as a starting point because it allows for more diversity in the shadings, whereas if I applied this swing to 2016 there would be a massive blob of R>90% counties and it wouldn't look as appealing.

What’s the Christian Party?

 

Conservative southern party by the looks of it.

EDIT: never mind, I didn't notice that they won Connecticut and Delaware.

 

The Christian Party was a union between the Christian Heritage Party and Christian Democratic Union. They were actually a spoiler party toward the Republicans which conversely were pro government. Mississippi actually became majority republican after TTL's Civil War and so it's highly Christian ideals allowed it to overcome the Republicans in that state.

The Christian Party, similar to the Radical wing of the Republicans, advocated Prohibition and Equality to immigrants and minorities while supporting government expansions and introductions of programs for the general American.

ITTL Christianity in America is actually really pro-feminism and so the Christian Party is the largest advocate for feminism in the nation. Something that the Republicans kinda lack.

I was tired of all the Baker vs Manchin type scenarios and instead wanted to do an election between a liberal Republican and two moderate Democrats from the plains states.

 

I like it.

 

The title implies that US politics ever did make sense
