It is sometimes said that football only became huge in Australia due to the presence of Croatian and Serbian migrants after 1945. For a long time, it was these groups who were the core part of the footie audience. Some people also say that the Hispanics are a group that made football a bigger sport in the USA in the past twenty years.

Are there possible alternate scenarios, in which a migrant group can help boost certain sports disciplines in their new home country that were not that much part of the national sporting culture before? I'm thinking along the lines of, e.g. Czech or Slovak migrants bringing ice hockey to another country.

(Post-colonial migration doesn't really work here: Cricket is big in India and Pakistan, but also in the UK. Same goes with football in West Africa/France, or Brazil/Portugal.)
