Hello all. I'm trying to brainstorm a bunch of ideas for a project I'm working on. What I'm looking for is interesting historical collaborations that could have happened. The most prominent example I've seen on this site is what if Darwin (1809 – 1882) met Mendel (1822 – 1884)? Biology could jump straight to the idea of the selfish gene and possibly avoid the nastiness of 'Social Darwinism'.
In that vein there are a bunch more collaborations that could have been interesting:
Jules Vern and HG Wells
Mark Twain and Oscar Wilde
Voltaire and Ben Franklin
Spinoza and Newton
Alexander Graham Bell and Nikola Tesla (avoid Edison?)
Others from the post-1900 era:
Alan Turing and Wittgenstein (both at Cambridge at the same time)
Carl Sagan and Timothy Leary (apparently they wrote a few letters to each other)
What other team-ups can you guys think of, and what might they produce?
