Recently I have been thinking about Japan's role as a cultural exporter and how anime, manga, video games, otakus and weeaboos have made Japanese culture (or at least a version of it) well known and popular worldwide. With a POD in the 1950s there any other nation that had a chance to make that sort of cultural impact?

I've thought that Russia could do it, maybe the release of Tetris makes the Soviet government realize that they could get into a new market and they start encouraging a homegrown games industry.
